Zedan Racing’s record-breaking purchase begins training under Bob Baffert, with all eyes now on his development

ARCADIA, California (Turf Diario Special)—There was barely time to process the record-breaking price or the media frenzy. Just hours after making history at the OBS Spring 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale, the son of Flightline (Tapit) who brought $10.5 million had already begun writing his next chapter.

The colt—now the most expensive 2-year-old in OBS history—arrived Saturday night at Bob Baffert’s barn at Santa Anita Park, touching down around 9 p.m. after a long journey from Florida. And he wasted no time making an impression.

“He’s an imposing individual… a man among boys,” Baffert said, clearly enthusiastic. “And with that pedigree, you understand why he brought what he did.”

The purchase was secured by agent Donato Lanni on behalf of Zedan Racing, the powerful operation led by Amr Zedan, which once again shook the market after spending $3 million on Brant (Gun Runner) just last year.

The new star prospect, from the first crop of the 2022 Horse of the Year, is out of Lucrezia (by Into Mischief), a stakes-winning mare, and had already turned heads prior to the sale with a dazzling :9 3/5 breeze at the under-tack show—displaying a fluid stride and doing it well within himself.

But beyond the price tag and pedigree, it’s his current condition that has connections most excited.

“He shipped great. He’ll probably go out tomorrow and do something light,” Baffert added, before summing up the moment with a telling remark: “He’s a handful… full of energy.”

In other words, he didn’t just arrive in good order—he arrived ready.

Now comes the real test: turning elite physical tools, a standout pedigree, and a record price into a racehorse capable of meeting towering expectations.

The story is just beginning. And, as always, the racetrack will have the final say.
