A daughter of Arcangelo tops the penultimate day of the Keeneland September Sale

Donato Lanni paid US$ 170,000 for a filly from the premier crop of the champion sire. With just one session remaining, total gross receipts for the Keeneland September Yearling Sale reached US$ 531,986,000, representing a nearly 5 percent increase over 2025

LEXINGTON, Kentucky (Special for Turf Diario).— Following several consecutive days of uninterrupted growth, Keeneland finally saw a session where total gross volume pulled back, though the market once again delivered encouraging signs where it matters most: average and median. The eleventh and penultimate session of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale concluded Friday topped by a filly from the premier crop of Arcangelo.
Donato Lanni secured the top-priced lot, paying US$ 170,000 for the filly consigned by Penn Sales, agent for Hannah Smith, a transaction that also established him as the leading buyer of the session.
The yearling is out of Mo’s Love (Uncle Mo) and belongs to a family that features Grade 2 winner California Angel(California Chrome), Grade 3 winner Cool Kiss (Kantharos), and multiple stakes winners.
The sale represented a successful commercial debut for Arcangelo, the champion whose first progeny will hit the racetrack in 2027.
During the session, 257 yearlings changed hands through the ring for US$ 6,086,500, compared to 301 horses sold for US$ 6,728,200 on the corresponding date last year. Consequently, total gross dropped by 9.54 percent, a decline largely linked to the lower volume of horses sold.
However, key market indicators continued their upward trajectory.
The average reached US$ 23,683, up 5.95 percent over the US$ 22,353 recorded in 2025, while the median rose from US$ 15,000 to US$ 17,000, representing a 13.33 percent gain.
With only the final session remaining, Keeneland has sold 2,595 yearlings through the ring for a gross total of US$ 531,986,000. That figure stands 4.95 percent ahead of the US$ 506,917,700 accumulated through the first eleven sessions of last year's sale.
The cumulative average maintains a significant margin, rising from US$ 189,644 to US$ 205,004—an 8.10 percent surge. Meanwhile, the median reached US$ 100,000 compared to US$ 95,000 in 2025, a 5.26 percent improvement.
Just behind the session topper was a colt from the first crop of Pappacap, purchased by Zalimkhan Koilakaev for US$ 120,000.
Consigned by Paramount Sales, he is out of Red River Hawk (Distorted Humor) and traces to the family of graded stakes winners Katz Me If You Can (Storm Cat), Crazy Mason (Coal Front), and Abundancia (California Chrome).
III Beautys Thoroughbred went to US$ 105,000 for a colt by Connect out of Beverly’s Song (First Samurai), offered by Hunter Valley Farm. His maternal page features Super Frolic (Pine Bluff), Lindsay Frolic (Mt. Livermore), and Drew’s Gold (Violence).
The six-figure threshold was rounded out by Admirer, a colt by Bolt d’Oro acquired by Taproot Bloodstock for US$ 100,000.
Consigned by Bridie Harrison on behalf of Peter E. Blum Thoroughbreds, he is out of Worshipper (by Awesome Again) and hails from the direct family of Grade 2 winner and prominent sire Pulpit (A.P. Indy).
Among consignors, Taylor Made Sales Agency reclaimed the top spot by selling 29 yearlings for a gross total of US$ 711,000.
The Keeneland September Sale reaches its twelfth and final session this Saturday with every major economic indicator holding well above the levels recorded twelve months ago.
While Friday's gross volume saw a dip, the simultaneous rise in both average and median demonstrated once again that buying interest maintains depth right into the tail end of the catalog. Just one session remains to finalize the numbers for an edition that has already comfortably surpassed the 2025 overall totals.
