A high-caliber Clásico Carlos Gardel, the best is yet to come on the Palermo dirt

Set over 1800 meters, will be contested this coming Friday; on Monday, the Palermo week will wrap up with a pair of handicaps

While the main anticipation of the week will center on Hipódromo de San Isidro and the Gran Premio Jockey Club (G1) fixture, Hipódromo de Palermo will also provide plenty of reasons to keep a close eye on the action.

Mainly for what is set to arrive on Friday with a very compelling edition of the Clásico Carlos Gardel (L), run over 1,800 meters on the dirt for 4-year-olds and up under weight-for-age conditions, offering a winner's purse of 14,050,000 pesos.

Thirteen horses were originally nominated, but only 7 were confirmed, in a field that features G1 winner Comando Secreto (War Command), graded stakes winners El Emporio (Il Campione), Votá Bien (Hi Happy), and Adorado Rim (Remote), along with stakes winners Don Machete (Daddy Long Legs) and Castañón Rim (Remote). The card will feature a total of 14 races (all with small field sizes), scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM and conclude around 7:30 PM.

Downtown Palermo will also open its gates on Monday, October 5, when the stakes action features a handicap double-header by way of the Handicap Star and Stripes (1,400 m, dirt) and the Handicap APHARA (1,200 m, dirt).

The former, open to winning mares 5 years old and up, will feature 8 contenders, with Guadilú (Señor Candy) assigned the 57-kilogram top weight.

Aiyanna (Santillano, 56 1/2), Endeia (Idolo Porteño, 53 1/2), Eneta (Il Campione, 55 1/2), Foto Oscura(Bodemeister, 56), Legítima Blan (Equal Legítimo, 54 1/2), Moon Scenery (Puerto Escondido, 56 1/2), and Rumba Feroz (Hurricane Cat, 52) will also take part.

Meanwhile, the APHARA is open to winning horses 4 years old and up, with Lyon (Lenovo) receiving the top weight of 61 kilograms, half a kilo above Rugiente (Il Campione) and one full kilo above Despacito (Sabayón).

Arcanum (Horse Greeley, 58 1/2), El Angus (Nicholas, 51), Filoso Class (Filoso Emperor, 56), Happy Moon (Hi Happy, 52), Huracán Risk (Security Risk, 59), Lonely Boy (Remote, 52 1/2), Oro Azteca (Empire Aztec, 55), Say It Fast (Cosmic Trigger, 57 1/2), and Vikingo Real (Seahenge, 56 1/2) were also confirmed.

Monday's program at Palermo will likewise consist of 14 races, boasting slightly larger field sizes, kicking off at 1:15 PM and set to wrap up near 7:45 PM.
