In the final jump—just as supporters of Jugadoraza (Winning Prize, 52) were ready to celebrate—A La Vista (54 1/2) lowered her head, spoiled the party, and claimed the Handicap Con Brio (1000m, dirt) in the most dramatic fashion at Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo.

The daughter of Angiolo had not been in top form recently, but there were pre-race hints that if she could rediscover her best, she would be dangerous. She proved exactly that.

It was a victory that seemed unlikely in many ways. At the break, she was squeezed between Rayo Girl (Remote, 52 1/2) and Elkara (Il Campione, 55 1/2), leaving her last and well adrift, with significant ground to make up.

Up front, heavy favorite La Mykonos (Mask, 60 1/2) went forward in the clear, while A La Vista began to recover gradually, picking off rivals and inching closer. Still, it wasn’t until deep into the stretch that her chances became truly realistic.

Around the 400-meter mark, La Mykonos drifted toward the rail and interfered with Jugadoraza, who had to shift inward to avoid her. Jugadoraza was the first to strike the front, appearing set for victory—but the race wasn’t over.

In a thrilling finish, A La Vista surged late and got up in the final stride to win by a half-head in 58.15.

Her comeback was remarkable, though for Jugadoraza, that slight interruption may have made all the difference. In the end, circumstances told the story.
