The jockey was the standout figure in the G3 Clásico Coronel Pringles, as the dark bay landed his first stakes victory, sparking an emotional celebration in the stands

Abel Luján Giorgis celebrated with heart and soul as he crossed the wire first aboard En Un Rincón in Monday’s G3 Clásico Coronel Pringles (1000m, dirt) at Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo, capping off the day’s stakes action and drawing a heartfelt ovation from the crowd—one that deeply admires and respects him.
“Abelito,” as nearly everyone in the racing world calls him, is a living emblem of Argentine turf, a rider who has shone for decades at both major venues and provincial tracks. Sprinting has always been his specialty, though he also made a mark in other distances, as in the days of Caro Sueño (Carabao).
A multiple Group 1 winner—among them with Capo D'Oro (Capo Máximo), Vital Class (In Class), Trenzado (West by West), and Mediático Jet (Commander Jet)—Giorgis, now in the twilight of his career, continues to showcase his class. This time, it came with the Manipulator colt who finally landed his elusive first stakes win, after knocking on the door repeatedly as a juvenile.
Breaking from the outside, En Un Rincón quickly settled into stride alongside Vida Amorosa (Safety Check) and Azúcar Negro (Angiolo), while Santa Calma (Qué Vida Buena) burst from the rail to seize the early lead.
Things began to shift midway through the race as En Un Rincón asserted himself at the front. Though he never fully drew away, he held firm to the wire to score by half a length over Azúcar Negro, who snatched second in the final stride from Vida Amorosa, beaten just a nose. Santa Calma, making her stakes debut, held on gamely to finish a solid fourth, three-quarters of a length behind.
The disappointment of the race was El Mejor Recuerdo (Il Campione), fresh off his G1 Gran Premio Ciudad de Buenos Aires triumph, who failed to fire and finished fifth after racing wide throughout.
In a sharp final time of 54.34, En Un Rincón sealed the most important victory of his career, delivering joy to Stud El Lobo, trainer Daniel O. Badano, and once again proving the enduring talent of Abel Giorgis, who was rewarded with another unforgettable winner’s circle and the sincere applause of his fans.
