After being beaten by three lengths by La Watson in their previous meeting, he completely turned the tables this time, crushing that same rival by 19 lengths in the México

LA PLATA.- Just 24 days after suffering a clear defeat at the hands of La Watson (Hurricane Cat) in the Clásico República Federativa del Brasil, Abrazo Al Cielo gained emphatic revenge by crushing that same rival in the Clásico México (2100m, fast dirt), the feature event among the 11 races offered Sunday at this city’s racetrack on a bleak afternoon.
Those three lengths she had lost by were transformed this time into an 18-length romp in her favor.
Yes, as impossible as it may sound, the form reversal amounted to a staggering 21 lengths.
One has to assume the representative of Stud El Cartujo improved significantly, especially considering the previous race had been her first attempt at the distance. But it is also fair to say that the gray mare from Stud Juanjo took a step backward, producing a far lesser effort than expected while surrendering her unbeaten local record.
Ridden by apprentice Jorge Benítez Vera, the daughter of Treasure Beach grew in confidence once she reached the lead, always maintaining a comfortable advantage over the rest of the field before beginning to widen the margin entering the final turn.
From there, she simply paraded through the stretch, eventually opening the aforementioned 18-length gap over favorite La Watson, who may have felt the effects of such a quick turnaround between demanding efforts.
Another two lengths behind came Existing (Winning Prize) in third, finishing just a head in front of Embrujada Girl (Cosmic Trigger), while Soy La Líder (Manipulator) completed the order another nine lengths farther back after a final time of 2:12.06.
Bred by Haras Juan Antonio, Abrazo Al Cielo was presented by Marcos Medina and now owns a highly efficient record of three wins from six starts.
She is the first foal out of Tiene Todo (Equal Stripes), an unraced mare descending from an American female family.
