Barring any last-minute changes, Vundu (Suggestive Boy) and Acento Final (Treasure Beach) will be Argentina’s representatives in the Gran Premio Latinoamericano (G1, 2000 m turf, US$ 300,000), scheduled for Saturday, October 18 at Hipódromo da Gávea in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

San Isidro nominated Vundu, while Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo selected Acento Final following his recent triumph in the Gran Premio General San Martín (G1). According to Turf Diario sources, connections of both horses have requested full details on travel logistics to Rio to make a prompt decision. The South American Organization for the Promotion of Thoroughbred Racing (OSAF) confirmed that transport from Buenos Aires to Rio will be direct, making a positive reply highly likely.

Both runners share the same trainer, Nicolás Martín Ferro, and were bred by Haras Pozo de Luna. If both participate, Argentina will field one of its strongest contingents in recent years on a track typically fair, though often yielding slightly soft ground due to Rio’s climate.

Significantly, both Vundu and Acento Final have recorded their top victories over the same 2000-meter turf distance of the Latinoamericano, heightening hopes for an Argentine win as visitors—a feat last achieved in 2018 when Roman Rosso (Roman Ruler) triumphed on dirt at Hipódromo Nacional de Maroñas in Uruguay.

Owned by Stud Gran Ascochinga, Vundu arrives on the back of wins in the Potrillón and Engrillado stakes, while in 2024 he captured the Gran Premio Estrellas Classic (G1) and the Macon and Engrillado stakes. Meanwhile, Acento Final, representing Stud Macul of Chilean owner Arturo Cousiño, returned to form this year with a decisive victory in the Gran Premio General San Martín, having previously claimed the Gran Premio Jockey Club (G1) nearly a year ago.

Argentina’s delegation should be confirmed within the coming hours, but all signs point to Vundu and Acento Final carrying the nation’s hopes to Rio.
