The triple Grade 1 winner returns to the turf course and distance where he secured his brilliant triumph in the 2025 Gran Premio General San Martín (G1)

For some time now, Argentina’s turf stayers division has lacked a consistent superstar. Finding a runner capable of stacking consecutive victories and solidifying their status has proven difficult, with the most recent examples being the wide-open results in the Grand Prix season, where Magnum Fifth (Daniel Boone) and Neat Colt (Treasure Beach) claimed the recent Gran Premio 25 de Mayo (G1) and Gran Premio Estrellas Classic (G1), respectively.

The division's spotlight now shifts to the turf course at the Hipódromo de Palermo, which this afternoon hosts the opening leg of the Campeonato de Oro Verde with a brand-new renewal of the Clásico Chacabuco (G2). Contested over grueling 2,400 meters, the marathon test is reserved for horses aged 4 and up, featuring a 17,500,000-peso winner's purse waiting at the wire.

Reflecting the current volatility of the long-distance ranks, none of the contenders offer a foolproof guarantee, though several prominent names among the field of nine confirmed runners boast high-caliber credentials.

The class of the field on paper is undoubtedly Acento Final (Treasure Beach). The triple G1 winner returns from a layoff following a below-par performance in the Gran Premio Miguel A. Martínez de Hoz (G1)—which followed a similarly disappointing effort in the Gran Premio Carlos Pellegrini (G1). However, he returns this afternoon to a course where he remains unbeaten; in his lone previous appearance on the Palermo grass, he captured the Gran Premio General San Martín (G1), defeating none other than top-class rival Need You Tonight.

Also a brilliant winner of the Gran Premio Jockey Club (G1) and the Gran Premio Copa de Oro (G1), the Chilean-owned Stud Macul color-bearer looks primed to make up for lost time.

Looming as a primary threat is Curious Song (Sixties Song), who enters off a stellar runner-up performance in the aforementioned 25 de Mayo, finishing just 1 1/2 lengths behind the winner. True to his distance-leaning pedigree, the colt continues to progress with maturity and distance.

From that same 25 de Mayo formline, Out of the Blue (Brz-Drosselmeyer) and Equal Mostaza (Equal Stripes) enter the starting gates looking to improve upon their respective fourth- and fifth-place finishes.

Meanwhile, Full Keynote (Full Mast) completed the 25 de Mayo contingent with a sixth-place effort. The colt continues to work toward recapturing his peak form following a bitter setback in the Martínez de Hoz (G1), where he was disqualified due to a medication violation. His connections remain highly confident in his ability, and this afternoon presents the perfect opportunity for redemption.
