Making her first appearance in stakes company, Adi Shakti stamped herself as a new force on the San Isidro turf with a resolute victory in Saturday’s Didia (1600m), the opening graded event on the Gran Premio Jockey Club (G1) program.

Coming in off a pair of conditional wins and returning to the course where she had broken her maiden earlier this year, the daughter of Lucullan unleashed a furious rally from the quarter pole, taking full advantage of the early pace battle waged by Same Treasure (Treasure Beach) and Lancara (Manipulator).

Ridden with confidence by William Pereyra, Adi Shakti quickened smartly, wore down Candlelit (Equal Stripes) in the final furlong, and went on to score by a length, with Lancara another two back in third. The final time of 1:33.61 was aided by the lightning-fast turf, trimmed tight to encourage sharp clockings.

Trained by Edgardo Patriarca, the 4-year-old filly races for Stud Rojo Pasión and was bred by Haras Rodeo Chico. Out of the stakes-winning South Vagancia (Southern Halo), she hails from the illustrious and enduring family of Vacación (Voodoo).

Now a winner of four of nine career starts, Adi Shakti has proven her effectiveness at a mile after starting her career over shorter trips. Next on the horizon could be the Clásico Carlos P. Rodríguez (G2) over the same course and distance, a tougher test against stronger opposition.
