LA PLATA.— Adrián Giannetti is enjoying one of those magical runs where everything seems to click. He rides with supreme confidence, makes all the right tactical decisions, and the results speak for themselves. Just one week after capturing the Polla de Potrillos (G2) aboard Autorretrato (Angiolo), the jockey once again took center stage at El BosqueHacer clic para abrir el panel lateral y obtener más información, this time driving Tryman to a hard-fought victory in the Clásico General José de San Martín (G3).
For Adrián Giannetti, the win held a particularly sweet satisfaction. His partnership with the Julio Penna trainee is still brand new and very much in its getting-to-know-you phase. He had only ridden him once before in competition when Tryman launched his comeback at PalermoHacer clic para abrir el panel lateral y obtener más información following a stint in Peru, though he has since begun putting him through his morning paces as well.
"He won a very nice race. I had only ridden him once before, at PalermoHacer clic para abrir el panel lateral y obtener más información, when Julio Penna offered me the mount. I started getting a feel for him that day, but I had watched all his previous races and studied his campaign, which featured several strong efforts," the jockey explained.
The international campaign of the son of the generous sire Safety Check included facing top-tier competition in Peru, albeit under conditions that, according to Adrián Giannetti, may not have fully suited his strengths.
"In Peru, he ran a bit out of his optimal distance range. After discussing it with Julio Penna, we agreed it wasn't ideal, but the racing calendar somewhat forced our hand. Even then, he performed admirably against Peru's elite, finishing right there with them. When this race came up, we jumped at the opportunity. I kept riding him in the mornings to learn more about him. He is a mature, seasoned horse, but this was his first time racing at El BosqueHacer clic para abrir el panel lateral y obtener más información," he elaborated.
The Clásico General José de San Martín also presented strategic hurdles. Sabiyano (Fortify) loomed as a formidable threat based on his strong recent form at La PlataHacer clic para abrir el panel lateral y obtener más información, and Adrián Giannetti knew he had to map out a trip that allowed Tryman to display his power without wasting energy prematurely.
"I studied the field and had immense respect for Sabiyano, who had been running great on this track. The plan was to stay relaxed early; sometimes Tryman tends to lug inward, so I stayed tight against the rail to avoid fighting him. He accepted it well, and we were fortunate enough to win a beautiful race," he recounted.
When the real running began in the stretch, Tryman dug deep to show that extra gear that so often separates graded stakes winners from the rest. That was where the seasoned craftiness of the 6-year-old shone through, proving that he is far from over the hill and still has plenty left in the tank.
"He gave everything he had, showing the heart and determination that truly good horses possess," Adrián Giannettisummarized, perfectly capturing the grit with which Tryman sealed the deal.
The victory opens up exciting prospects moving forward. His seamless adaptation to the La PlataHacer clic para abrir el panel lateral y obtener más información oval was immediate, and his jockey firmly believes that age is just a number for a horse that retains this much passion and ability.
"Tryman felt completely comfortable here and I see a very bright future for him. Despite being 6 years old, he felt fantastic," he assured.
Adrián Giannetti was also quick to express his gratitude for the opportunity provided by Julio Penna, given his recent arrival to the barn. "I am deeply grateful to Julio Penna and the entire team at the stable. I want to share this joy with them because I am just joining their setup," he highlighted.
August is turning into a stellar month for the veteran hoop at La PlataHacer clic para abrir el panel lateral y obtener más información. Just seven days prior, he celebrated one of the biggest wins of the local season with Autorretrato in the Polla de Potrillos, praising the conditioning work of Arnaldo Vigiland pointing the colt toward even bigger goals. Now, Tryman has provided him another trip to the winner's circle in graded company.
Two horses at completely different stages of their careers—one just beginning to write his story and the other leaning on class and experience—united by the same red-hot hand in the irons.
Adrián Giannetti is in imperious form. And when a jockey of his caliber catches fire, every single mount becomes a potential victory.
