Carrying 59 1/2 kilos, the son of Orpen prevailed in the Handicap Kendal and is now ready to return to the stakes level

After 227 days without racing, the veteran Camuflaje had an ideal return to the tracks, winning the Handicap Kendal(1,000m, turf), the centerpiece of Saturday's card at San Isidro Racecourse, contested over a heavy track.
A horse of unquestionable ability and with strong credentials in the category, he faced no major issues in settling the matter, carrying 59 1/2 kilos and, as almost always, with Iván Monasterolo in the irons.
True to his style, the son of Orpen never traveled too far back, allowing Hiran (Santillano, 61 1/2) and Río Felipín(Grand Reward, 57) to show the way up front, though with the rest of the field close by, preventing them from opening up too much ground. The winner was part of that tracking group, began to close in at the midway point, and by the 250-meter mark, he was already making contact with the lead.
Once in front, Camuflaje established himself and prevented any late run from becoming dangerous, reaching the wire with a 1-length advantage over El Romancero (Il Campione, 54) who, taking advantage of the low weight, regained his best form.
A half-length back, the top weight Bailarín de Venecia (Angiolo, 62) finished third, ahead of Secreto a Voces(Springdom, 54) and Hiran, who finished a half-neck and 1 1/2 lengths back, respectively. The race time was 56s76/100, following very fast fractions of 22s52/100 and 44s74/100.
Great work by Eduardo Accosano to bring the horse from Stud El Chorrito back at his best level, allowing him to now face the stakes season with expectations, provided his health lends a hand.
Nearly 7 years old, Camuflaje celebrated for the seventh time in just 16 starts, standing on the verge of 29,000,000 pesos in earnings. Bred by Haras La Manija, he is out of Camuflada (Easing Along), who was a multiple graded stakes placer during her campaign and is a great-granddaughter of the remembered Cadeaux (Southern Halo), the best 2-year-old of 1994 in the country.
