The first Group 1 opportunities of the season for juveniles arrive, with short fields in both races

The Gran Premio República Argentina (G1) meeting at Palermo will kick off its Group 1 action with the Gran Premio Montevideo and Gran Premio Jorge de Atucha, both contested over 1500 meters on the dirt and serving as the first top-level tests of the season for the 2-year-old division.
It’s no longer just about speed and precocity. Now, for the youngest runners, the time has come to show a bit more—stamina, soundness, and the constitution to handle the rigors of the selection process, which, in several of these contenders, began quite early in the year.
The fillies will take the stage first in the Atucha, where undefeated Roshita looms as a major force. A dominant debut winner, the daughter of Gouverneur Morris out of the Rubio B. barn returned with a resounding 6-length score over Sarzana Pass (Distinctiv Passion) in the G2 Saturnino J. Unzué, catapulting herself to the top of the juvenile rankings at La Catedral.
Go Clari Go (Strategos) will be looking to challenge the favorite. Fourth on debut, she returned to impress with a 4-length victory over Luces Rojas (Leofric) on this same track, stopping the clock in a sharp 1:08.84 for 1200 meters.
Both Roshita and Go Clari Go will be stretching out significantly, a scenario Gata Frank (Gidu) has already experienced. Though she has yet to run on dirt, the filly was a solid third behind Tiz Joy (Fortify) in the G2 Eliseo Ramírez going this same trip at San Isidro.
Gata Frank represents the colors of Stud Gran Muñeca, also carried by Alado Frank, the leading name in the Montevideo after his convincing victory in the G3 Crespo over 1400 meters.
His toughest test could come from Amor de Contramano (Gouverneur Morris), who dazzled in his lone appearance when crushing Peter Tosh (Fortify) by 6 lengths over this same course and distance in a sharp 1:29.56.
Liberto (Hurricane Cat), third in the G2 Chevalier, and Monteagrelo (Il Campione) round out a quality group in a race that promises to be a key preview of what’s to come in the division.
