Winston, Bolero Frank, Gardel Pass, Hi Dolfi, and Amuni headline a field as large as it is competitive, adding prestige to the juvenile process at el Bosque

LA PLATA.- It’s been a long time since a race from the juvenile selection process at this city’s racetrack has showcased the kind of quality that will be on display this afternoon in the Clásico Pedro Goenaga (G2)—the final major stop for 2-year-old colts in the first half of the year, to be contested over 1500 meters.
From a competitive standpoint, this may be the most evenly matched field of the season across the board—whether at San Isidro or Palermo—without comparing it directly to standout performances like Amor de Contramano (Gouverneur Morris)’s show in the Gran Premio Montevideo (G1).
With 12 confirmed runners, there are contenders to suit every taste. Leading the way is Winston (Forge), a visitor from Juan Saldivia’s barn at Palermo who, after a pair of runner-up finishes to start his career, broke his maiden impressively by six lengths over Jazzy Frank (Gidu) on the dirt at San Isidro.
It will be his first trip to La Plata, giving a home-track edge to Bolero Frank (Gidu), who made a strong impression a few weeks ago when narrowly defeating Laho Nahuel Huapi (Hurricane Cat)—later disqualified due to a medication violation—in the Clásico Asociación de Propietarios de Caballos de Carrera (G3).
Another Palermo shipper with high expectations is Gardel Pass (Distinctiv Passion), trained by María Fernanda Alvarez and Walter Suárez. After a minor medication setback, he returned with authority, scoring in the maiden ranks by 2 1/2 lengths over Coro de Rojas (Daddy Long Legs), who returned to win and most recently ran second to Legalized(Dabster) in the Clásico Manuel Anasagasti (L).
Omar Labanca brings two serious players to the table: Hi Dolfi (Hi Happy), runner-up in the Crespo (G3) and fifth in the Montevideo (G1); and Amuni (Tetaze), who recently posted an easy maiden victory over the local mile.
Among those with strong performances in allowance company, Señor Dalton (Señor Candy), Norte (Leofric), and Andrin (Manipulator) will look to make the jump to stakes level—and based on what they’ve shown so far, they just might be up to the task.
