A son of the champion sire Curlin and the formidable champion sprinter Lady Aurelia (Scat Daddy), the newly minted sire captured two victories in the United States, including a stakes triumph in the Zia Park Juvenile Stakes (L)

Haras Masama recently announced the exciting addition of a new stallion to its roster. The newcomer is the American-bred American Rascal, a horse boasting a true classic pedigree as a son of the phenomenal champion sire Curlin (Smart Strike) and the unforgettable champion sprinter Lady Aurelia (Scat Daddy).
Foaled in 2021 (Note: corrected from the original text's typo of 2001), the handsome individual campaigned under the prominent silks of his breeder, Stonestreet Stables LLC. Conditioned by Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen, he competed on nine occasions, visiting the winner's circle twice.
He flashed immense talent right from the start, breaking his maiden in brilliant fashion on debut as a two-year-old over the Keeneland dirt. That dominant performance prompted connections to target the prestigious Royal Ascot meeting in England, where he lined up in the G2 Norfolk Stakes, ultimately finishing a disappointing thirteenth.
Following a brief freshening, he resurfaced in a Churchill Downs allowance, where he uncharacteristically failed to threaten, but quickly rebounded in his next start to capture the Zia Park Juvenile Stakes (L) at Zia Park. He followed that stakes triumph with a solid runner-up finish in the Sugar Bowl Stakes (L) at Fair Grounds. Although he went unplaced in his four starts at age three, he did turn in a commendable fourth-place effort in the G3 Quick Call Stakes at Saratoga.
His sire, Curlin, has already enjoyed immense success as a sire of sires in Argentina through Dabster—who currently stands at Haras Firmamento. In North America, Curlin's stallion sons include the likes of Good Magic, Connect, and Exaggerator. Furthermore, the stallion's global influence has been heavily reinforced this season by his brilliant son Golden Tempo, the current leader of the sophomore division in the United States following historic victories in the G1 Kentucky Derby and the G1 Belmont Stakes.
On the dam's side, American Rascal is out of one of the fastest turf mares in recent memory. Lady Aurelia captivated the racing world with spectacular overseas triumphs in the G1 King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot and the G1 Prix Morny in France.
His second dam is D'Wildcat Speed (Forest Wildcat), a Horse of the Year in Puerto Rico where she captured multiple Grade 1 victories. She, in turn, is out of Velvet Panther (Pentaquod), another champion in the Caribbean nation who secured three victories at the highest level.
