This coming Friday, Hipódromo de San Isidro will host a new renewal of the longest race on the calendar, contested over 3000 meters on the turf

Racing paradoxes. At a time when tempers are flaring over Palermo's proposal to trim the distance of the historic Gran Premio Nacional (G1), this coming Friday Hipódromo de San Isidro will host a new renewal of the Clásico General Pueyrredón (G3), the longest race on the national calendar at 3000 meters on the turf.
Undoubtedly a focal point for many racing enthusiasts, it evokes memories of a bygone era when passing the winning post twice was far more common—the very grounds where many of the iconic champions of local turf history were forged.
Open to horses aged 4 and up, the marathon contest attracted 11 entries: Don Chamuyo (John F Kennedy), Don Logrado (Fortify), El Estanciero (Fire Slam), El Garrafa Morris (Gouverneur Morris), Hi Dolfi (Hi Happy), Impregnado Sr (Señor Candy), Nevado Pampa (Hat Ninja), the Brazilian-bred Phanton (Outstrip), Playa Chopera(Treasure Beach), Santo Rey (Santillano), and Travel Pass (Fortify).
The Jockey Club oval will also host racing on Wednesday, August 26, anchored by the Handicap Stiletto (1800m, dirt) for 4-year-olds and up. Among the 13 probable runners, top weight of 59 1/2 kilos was assigned to Super Inter (Super Saver), half a kilo more than the burden assigned to Storm Sound (Hi Happy). Grade 1 winner Holy Joy (Fortify) was allotted 58 1/2 kilos, while Davalos (Hi Happy) received 58.
Over at Hipódromo Palermo, pure speed will take center stage this coming Saturday with the Clásico México(G3-1000m, dirt) for fillies and mares aged 3 and up, setting up another intriguing clash of generations.
The 3-year-old fillies A Plena Luz (Angiolo), Happy Family (Fortify), and Venus Win (Gershwin) could face off against: Bichita de Luz (Fragotero), Eleven Mile (Il Campione), Emma Linda (Emmanuel), Forever You (Full Mast), La Bella Otero (Daddy Long Legs), La Combatiente (Le Blues), La Gran Furtiva (South Kissing), Lissette Island (Lizard Island), Maylena (Qué Vida Buena), Pilar (Can the Man), Qué Buena B (Qué Vida Buena), Roshita(Gouverneur Morris), Santa Calma (Qué Vida Buena), Stranger Key (Strategos), Tartana Frank (Gidu), Verdadera Pass (Distinctiv Passion), and Victoria Bayern (Santillano).
Looking ahead to Palermo's card on Monday, August 24, the feature event will be the Handicap Potrillazo (1400m, dirt) for horses aged 4 and up, drawing 14 entries. Topping the weight assignments at 61 kilos is Storm Sound, followed by Vampiro Zen (Zensational) at 58.
