The son of Todo Un Amiguito closed down the outside and got the better of Príncipe Soñado and Sebi Torres in the Especial Juan Alberto Maciel

In 2023, Amiguito Don José had put together a highly outstanding campaign in selective stakes. He was second in the Polla de Potrillos (G3) at La Plata, third in the Doyhenard (G3), and fourth in the Clásico Old Man (G3).
However, as so often happens, early exposure to the highest level takes its toll, and his subsequent seasons were spent alternating between a couple of conditional wins and a long string of minor efforts. Over the muddy track of the Hipódromo Palermo, the son of Todo Un Amiguito was revitalized this Monday, charting a long, steady, and effective closing kick to capture the Especial Juan Alberto Maciel (1200 m), the other event above the common ranks on the card, which honored the Fiera, an emblematic jockey for the national racing industry.
With Lucas González in his irons and carrying just 52 kilos, the chestnut made the most of that weight advantage and the grueling battle sustained upfront during a good part of the trip by the pacesetter Sebi Torres (Orpen, 56) and the favorite Príncipe Soñado (Fragotero, 58).
Biding his time while watching what unfolded between them was the secret for Amiguito Don José, who began to make up ground down the outside in the straight while his rivals fought head-to-head, burning up energy.
Thus, just as Príncipe Soñado managed to clear a slight advantage over Sebi Torres, the winner materialized to sweep past them and score by 1 1/2 lengths in 1m12s34/100. Príncipe Soñado was able to hold onto second place, 3/4 of a length ahead of Sebi Torres.
Defending the silks of Stud Galeato, bred by Pedro Fiol and Marcelo Barabino, and conditioned from day one by Jorge Mayansky Neer, Amiguito Don José was finally able to secure that elusive feature victory he had promised so much, right on the verge of turning 6 years old.
It is now 4 total winner's circles for the grandson of Storm Embrujado, whose earnings sit just above 27 million pesos and who, with a helping hand from the scale, could find nice footing to put up a fight in this division. He was a solid juvenile, and now as an adult, he keeps delivering joy. That is no small feat—quite the contrary...
