The son of the champion Tetaze took full advantage of the circumstances, made his move early, and defeated El Darwinby 4 lengths

LA PLATA.– With Sono Perfetto absent, there was nothing better than Amuni. With the best local stayer taking a rest, his paternal half-brother took up the mantle and captured the Clásico Antonio Cané (G3-2100m, fast dirt), a new stop on the road to the Gran Premio Dardo Rocha (G1) at this city's racetrack.

Both are sons of the champion Tetaze (Equal Stripes) and serve under the orders of Omar Labanca, who is developing Amuni's qualities step by step. During a good part of last year, the colt tried his luck in stakes company without success, but from December onward, he began to show improvement.

He was third in the Clausura (G2) and second in the Comparación (L), on both occasions finishing behind the aforementioned Sono Perfetto, and fourth in the Oswaldo Aranha (L) when dropping down to the mile.

Stamina seems to be his forte, and he confirmed it now, clearly digging deep to pull off a victory in a contest that was far from simple and involved several highly experienced names, both here and at the main tracks.

With Gonzalo Borda in the irons, Amuni never raced too far from the pacesetter Abrazo Al Cielo (Treasure Beach). Along the final part of the turn, the winner began to make his move alongside El Darwin (Il Campione) until they left the lone mare in the field behind.

Once in the straight, the best part of the Stud Doble S.S. colt's performance arrived as he began to draw clear, hitting the wire with 4 lengths to spare over El Darwin, who shook off a long layoff with a solid effort.

Another 3 lengths back, Ruso Real (In the Dark) completed the trifecta, while Grade 1 winner Epityrum (Portal del Alto) had a much tougher time than expected, finishing a dull fifth. The winning time for the race was 2m12s5/100.

Bred by Sergio O. Savi, Amuni is the first foal out of the very useful race mare Giulitta (Most Improved), who achieved 4 victories at Palermo during her campaign, including the Handicap Tatán, and even ran acceptably at the graded stakes level.
