The colt and the filly, both by the influential Manipulator, captured Thursday’s maiden events for 2-year-olds at La Plata; Angel Piana and Miguel O. Sosa teamed up for both victories

LA PLATA.- The generosity of Manipulator is well known, and though he may have fallen slightly out of commercial fashion, his progeny continue to remind everyone that his influence remains very much alive.

Thursday’s card at La Plata, headlined by Bolero Frank (Gidu) taking the G3 Clásico Asociación de Propietarios de Caballos de Carrera, also featured a pair of maiden races for juveniles, both won by offspring of the stallion who once stood at Haras La Pasión. Adding another common thread to the story, trainer Angel Piana and jockey Miguel O. Sosateamed up for both wins.

It was the colts who struck first in the Premio Seek Wave (1000m, heavy), where Andrin made his experience count and returned $4.45, a price only explained by the quality of opposition he had previously faced.

The heavy favorite, Vendaval Joy (Roman Joy), failed to fire and checked in fourth, but it was the dark bay representing Stud Doctor's who took command late and held off Viejo Cuchara (Il Campione) by two lengths.

Under SosaAndrin dueled early with Vendaval Joy and Emm Yugo (Emmanuel), took over at the top of the stretch while never leaving the rail, and kicked away powerfully to stop the clock in 1:01.44. Bred by Haras Estirpe de Criadores, the colt is out of the stakes-placed Chamar (Exchange Rate), a full sister to listed winner Charm Scent.

A short while later, it was the fillies' turn in the Premio Emmspacial Boy, and again Piana and Sosa struck with a daughter of Manipulator—this time with Mis Locuras. Coming off a maiden score at Palermo in her seventh start, the dark bay battled on the front end with Idiala Edition (Equal Edition), finally edging past her inside the final 200 meters.

Her task wasn’t done, however, as she had to dig in late to hold off a strong challenge from Flor de Laurel (Il Campione), crossing the wire 1 1/2 lengths in front in a final time of 1:02.29—almost a full second slower than Andrin, but enough to justify her favoritism.

Mis Locuras is the fourth winner out of Vacation Spot (Bernardini), herself a daughter of G1 winner Peristáltica(Intérprete), from the family of fellow top-level scorer Sinfonía Fantástica (Cima de Triomphe).
