A curious case is that of Argamasa, who on Monday became a two-time winner of the Clásico Sierra Balcarce (2,200 m), albeit with the unique distinction of doing so on two different surfaces. While in 2025 she shone on the turf, this Monday she entered the winner's enclosure after giving her all over a sloppy dirt track.
Due to condition of the turf course, the feature race of the Monday card at Hipódromo Palermo was transferred to the main track, where the daughter of Lucullan displayed that same effectiveness, blended with a heavy dose of grit to deny the favorite La Watson (Hurricane Cat) virtually on the wire.
Jockey Kevin Banegas deserves tremendous credit aboard the defender of Stud Tres P., as he never gave up—even when his rival drifted wide in the stretch, carrying him nearly all the way out to the outside fence, as if they were contesting a 1,000-meter dash.
Trained by Nicolás Martín Ferro—and saddled on the day by his father, Enrique—Argamasa had been showing positive signs and seized the opportunity to reunite with victory, exactly one year after her previous triumph, despite enduring an absence of over seven months during that span.
The bay bred at Haras La Pasión secured victory by merely a head over La Watson, who put forth another solid effort to confirm her status as a standout name in the second tier of the female stayer division. Seven lengths further back, in a race of her own, Existing (Winning Prize) completed the trifecta, with the winner stopping the clock in 2m21s4/100.
It was the fifth victory in 18 starts for Argamasa, pushing her career earnings past 52 million pesos while leveraging her versatility to complete the memorable double-event.
