The Great Day’s Son Proves Tough Over 1500 Meters, Now Targets the Piñeyrúa

MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay (Special for Turf Diario).- After an encouraging fifth in the G3 Gran Premio Polla de Potrillos, Soldi (Arg) (The Great Day) delivered a sharp performance Sunday at Hipódromo Nacional de Maroñas, taking the Clásico Constante R. y Horacio Turturiello(1400m, dirt).
Bred by Haras Firmamento and racing for Stud Patria Blanca, the 3-year-old colt could well have provided a preview of what’s to come next weekend at San Isidro, where The Great Racing (Arg), another son of The Great Day, looms a leading contender for the G1 Gran Premio Jockey Club, second leg of the Argentine Triple Crown.
Trained by Antonio Cintra (presented by Jorge Rey) and ridden by José da Silva, Soldi tracked pacesetter Oasis Boy(Put It Back) before taking command into the stretch and drawing away steadily to prevail by 1 3/4 lengths in 1:23.58. It was another 5 1/4 lengths back to Trini López (Orb) in third, while fellow Argentine Whiskacho (Señor Candy) rounded out the field just a neck further behind.
“After he ran so well in the Polla, we debated between aiming for the Jockey Club or running here,” owner Francisco Gallinal told Maroñas TV. “Since he has always shown more speed than stamina, we chose this route toward the G1 Gran Premio Pedro Piñeyrúa, with the Clásico Argentina as the next target, but everything will depend on what his trainer decides.”
Out of the English mare Pretty Peinture (Invincible Spirit), Soldi is her third foal and joins Pretty Rim (Remote) as a winner. He also becomes the fourth classic winner from the first crop of multiple G1 winner The Great Day (Arg), following The Great Racing, The Great Cash and The Great Wells.
