Argentine Runners Arrive at Monterrico; Manyuz Out, Boudica In for the Latinoamericano

The Gladiator’s Hat, Thor Medina Settle In Well at Monterrico; Manyuz Scratched, Boudica Joins Peruvian Team
LIMA, Peru (Special to Turf Diario).- With just over a week remaining before the Gran Premio Latinoamericano (G1) at Monterrico, developments continue to unfold ahead of the continent’s marquee event.
Argentina’s two representatives, Thor Medina (Mootasadir) and The Gladiator’s Hat (Hat Ninja), traveled without issue and are now stabled at the international quarantine barn at the Surco oval.
“Fortunately, the trip went smoothly, without setbacks, and they’re already settled in their boxes. Now we just need everything to continue normally,” Mariano Semowoniuk, part of the team behind Stud Haras El Angel de Venecia, which campaigns The Gladiator’s Hat, told Turf Diario.
As previously reported, the Uruguayan and Chilean delegations are scheduled to arrive Sunday, while the Brazilian runners are expected in on Monday, completing the international lineup.
In the meantime, a significant late change has emerged within the Peruvian delegation. Manyuz (Run Away and Hide), winner of the 2024 edition when the race was run over the dirt at Monterrico, has been withdrawn, with mare Boudica(The Lieutenant) stepping in. She will make her second consecutive appearance in the race after competing in the 2025 running at Gávea in Rio de Janeiro.
Trainer Juan Suárez Villarroel, who conditions both runners, told Todo Sport that Manyuz will not run due to his inability to compete without Lasix, given a history of bleeding. The substitution was possible as both horses were listed as also-eligibles, for which Stud Jet Set, owner of both, paid the $25,000 entry fee.
A similar situation occurred in Argentina in 2023, when Best Galano (Galán de Cine) replaced Star Galán (Galán de Cine) shortly before the race, both representing Stud Egalité de 9.
The scratch of Manyuz could have a notable impact on the projected race shape, as many expected the American-bred to set the pace in support of his stablemates Padre Roberto (Hurricane Cat) and Puppi’s Husband (Fortify), the leading hopes for Stud Jet Set in this year’s Latinoamericano.
