LA PLATA—Persistence finally paid off for Arrosto, whose determination carried him to victory in Tuesday’s featured Especial Haras San Benito, run over 1000 meters on a heavy dirt track at this venue.

Well-established as a consistent performer, the son of Manipulator snapped a lengthy winless streak—though it should be noted that since January, the date of his previous success, he spent several months on the sidelines undergoing repairs.

Since returning, he had collected several good placings, and this time he put it all together with a performance blending courage, speed and staying power. With Jesús Azcona aboard, the dark bay trained by Angel Piana—and saddled by Angel Barbieri—tracked the pace immediately, sitting just off El Santo Remedio (Il Campione, 54kg), who carved out solid fractions of :23.42 and :46.93.

The pressure intensified turning for home, and at the 200-meter pole Arrosto took command, opening a clear advantage that allowed him to comfortably withstand the late bids of Maylena (Qué Vida Buena, 52kg) and Oro Azteca (Empire Aztec, 54kg). They finished one length and a half-head behind the winner, who stopped the clock in a sharp :59.43.

Conspicuously absent from contention was the favorite Agradecida Pass (Distinctiv Passion, 53kg), who trailed the field throughout and never played a role. Her performance was so flat that it is best dismissed; time will tell whether a physical issue hampered her or if the track condition simply proved too much.

For Arrosto, this marked the fourth and most important victory of his career.
