Inactive since November, the son of Angiolo defeated favorite El Rayo Pass in the General Lavalle (G3)

Aspiring Artist was one of the first members of the 2023 crop to debut and win, back in November. This Monday, after 191 days on the sidelines, the son of Angiolo returned to action with a courageous victory in the Clásico General Lavalle (G3) over 1000 meters on a fast dirt track, making it clear that he possesses the engine to dream big and confirming that his debut success was about much more than mere precocity.
With Kevin Banegas aboard, the Stud Pampa runner never strayed far from the pace. It took him a little while to switch leads, but once he did, he locked horns with heavy favorite El Rayo Pass (Distinctiv Passion) and gradually wore him down, prevailing by a half-length at the wire.
Another 2 1/2 lengths back came Wek End Pass (Distinctiv Passion) in third, ahead of Listen (Le Blues), with the final time a sharp :57.53.
Trainer Lucas Caru offered some insightful comments to Palermo television afterward:
"I'm fortunate enough not only to train him, but also to have selected him at the sale. We always thought highly of him, but he was coming back from a significant issue that prevented him from running in the Clásico Guillermo Kemmis (G3). We worked hard with him, managed to get him back on track, and now we're enjoying this victory."
Bred by Triple Alliance and out of a daughter of the outstanding sprinter Petite West (Westbridge), Aspiring Artist became the 48th stakes winner sired by the outstanding Angiolo (Grand Reward).
His next stop could well be the Clásico Estrellas Junior Sprint (G3) at the end of June over the turf course at San Isidro, as he is nominated to the series and appears poised for an exciting future.
