Winner of the Clásico General Lavalle (G3) when returning from a layoff at Palermo, he offers a rematch to El Rayo Pass in an intriguing contest

The Clásico Estrellas Sprint Junior (G3), a 1,000-meter dash on the turf, stands as one of the cornerstone fixtures of the prestigious Carreras de las Estrellas festival. It holds a distinct place in South American racing history as one of the original three events that launched the series back in 1991, debuting alongside the Juvenile and Juvenile Fillies divisions.
Open to juveniles of both sexes, the race was culturally treated with Grade 1 reverence for decades, consistently producing champions that went on to dominate the sprinting division. Its historic honor roll features legendary speedsters such as inaugural winner Gold Spring (Gold Trojan), Astrológica (Senor Pete), Refine (Mutakddim), Sassagoula Springs (Grand Reward), and the formidable champion Labrado (Le Blues).
This Friday afternoon at Hipódromo de San Isidro, a new chapter will be written as a competitive field of 12 colts and fillies lines up at the top of the straight away. The clear focal point of the field is the undefeated Aspiring Artist, who will be making his highly anticipated turf debut.
Bred to fly, the son of Angiolo transitions to the grass with a perfect two-for-two record, both compiled at Palermo. After capturing his maiden special weight last November, he was sidelined with a physical setback, making a triumphant return to the races earlier this month with a gritty victory in the Clásico General Lavalle (G3).
In that seasonal reappearance, Aspiring Artist turned back a stiff challenge to defeat El Rayo Pass (Distinctiv Passion)by a half-length, setting up an intriguing rematch today. Campaigned by Stud Pauli, El Rayo Pass holds a distinct experience advantage and already boasts a victory over San Isidro’s expansive turf course, having captured the Clásico Velocidad (G3).
The only other multiple winner in the lineup is Nissos (Il Mercato). After graduating by a half-length, he quickly duplicated that effort with a 1 1/2-length score over Cadiz (Strategos)—a runner who flattered the form line by capturing Tuesday’s Especial Velocistas Potrillos at La Plata.
Adding depth to the field are several high-upside prospects stepping into stakes company off singular maiden victories, including Glarira (Gouverneur Morris), November Rain (Strategos), and Senzatta (Zensational). While facing a steep rise in class, all three possess the raw talent to challenge the favorites, while Clásico Velocidad runner-up Listen (Le Blues), Pasatiempo (A Different Style), and Addicted to Love (Angiolo) look to pull off the upset.
