Astromelia ended Bahía Perdida’s undefeated streak to reign supreme at Hipódromo Chile

Prevailed in the Clásico Mil Guineas - María Luisa Solari Falabella (G1), run over the mile at Hipódromo Chile, leading a 1-2 finish for sire Tiz the Law

SANTIAGO DE CHILE, Chile (Special for Turf Diario).— Faced with an undefeated champion, Astromelia was undaunted. The daughter of Tiz the Law delivered a stellar performance to capture the Clásico Mil Guineas - María Luisa Solari Falabella (G1-1,600 m), one of the premier events of the season for 3-year-old fillies at Hipódromo Chile, and assumed division leadership.

The Stud Vendaval representative defeated her stablemate and paternal half-sister Bahía Perdida by 3/4 of a length, handing the latter her first defeat after five wins in as many starts.

Trained by José I. Inda and ridden by Joaquín Herrera, Astromelia was sent off as the favorite and fully rewarded that support with a flawless trip.

Espíritu Maya (Indian Trail) dictated the early pace, while Bahía Perdida tracked comfortably in third. Meanwhile, Astromelia settled further back in mid-pack, biding her time before making her move.

The race shape shifted dramatically turning into the stretch. Bahía Perdida quickly tackled the pacesetter to assume control, looking poised to extend her perfect record.

However, Astromelia was looming large on the outside. Herrera systematically brought her into contention, and when called upon for her final rally, the filly responded with tremendous energy. A duel ensued between the two Stud Vendaval colorbearers—Bahía Perdida fighting to preserve her unbeaten streak, and Astromelia launching her decisive bid. In the end, the favorite prevailed.

Astromelia wore down her stablemate to win by 3/4 of a length, securing her third victory from five starts and, most importantly, the first G1 win of her career.

The outcome reshashes the divisional landscape at Hipódromo Chile. Bahía Perdida fell for the first time following five consecutive wins, leaving Astromelia firmly atop the division just as longer-distance challenges approach.

Bred by Haras Paso Nevado, the winner further underscored the strong international momentum of Tiz the Law, finding the 1,600 meters of the Mil Guineas the ideal launchpad to join the elite.

For Ignacio Hurtado B., representing Stud Vendaval, the result provided double satisfaction as his fillies swept the top two spots, though this time it was Astromelia taking top honors.

Her next objective is already mapped out. Pending sound health, Astromelia will target the Gran Criterium Mauricio Serrano Palma (G1-1,900 m) on October 3, the centerpiece of the 37th edition of Sábado de Campeones.

There, she will face a new test, stepping up an additional 300 meters in distance.

The Mil Guineas delivered a clear verdict: Astromelia is no longer just a promising filly. By snapping Bahía Perdida’s unbeaten streak, she has firmly established herself as the mare to beat.
