DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (Special for Turf Diario).— Since the golden days of Vazirabad (Manduro), who secured three consecutive victories until 2018, no one has managed to repeat a win in the demanding Dubai Gold Cup(G2-3,200m). A statistic that highlights the magnitude of the challenge… and now places Dubai Future (Dubawi) before an opportunity as attractive as it is complex.

The pupil of Saeed bin Suroor, the winningest trainer in the history of Dubai World Cup night with 39 successes, was one of the surprises of the last edition, prevailing in the Meydan marathon with authority. Today, at 10 years old, he returns with the mission of breaking that statistic and etching his name among the elite stayers.

Of course, the context is not the same. The bay has not raced since August, when he contested the Lonsdale Cup (G2) at York, and his preparation has not been without setbacks.

“He had a small issue, so it will be his first race of the year,” explained bin Suroor. Even so, the trainer expressed satisfaction with what he saw in recent works: “We took him to Meydan last week to let him move, and I liked how he did it. He looks in good shape.”

Optimism, however, coexists with caution. The field he will face this year seems deeper and more demanding than that of 2025, and there is an additional factor that could play a role: the weather. “The race is tougher than last year's, and rain is also expected. Hopefully, the track doesn’t get too heavy,” he added.

In 3,200-meter races, where stamina and rhythm are decisive, any variable can tip the scales. Even more so for a veteran horse attempting to maintain his relevance against younger rivals in full ascent.

With experience as an ally and history as an incentive, Dubai Future prepares for a new attempt at Meydan. Because repeating in the Gold Cup is not just winning another race. It is, quite simply, defying the passage of time.
