The son of Forge scored by a nose over the favorite in the Clásico Federación Argentina de Jockey Clubes e Hipódromos, setting his sights firmly on the Gran Premio Dardo Rocha (G1)
LA PLATA.- Nassau and Sono Perfetto (Tetaze) treated the modest crowd in attendance for Sunday's program at this track to an exceptionally thrilling duel at the end of the Clásico Federación Argentina de Jockey Clubes e Hipódromos (2200 m, dirt track), a key prep along the path toward the Gran Premio Dardo Rocha (G1).
In a head-to-head battle that unfolded virtually from the break, the wire decided the race by a mere nose in favor of Nassau over his rival, securing sweet redemption after having finished second to him in the Clásico General Belgrano (G2) at Palermo.
This time, jockey Rodrigo Blanco opted not to yield so much ground to Lautaro Balmaceda and the favorite, keeping the son of Forge in close pursuit throughout what appeared to be honest fractions (the electronic timer at the venue has been out of service for some time).
With the rest of the field well back, Sono Perfetto entered the home straight holding a slim advantage over Nassau, who gradually eroded the margin before getting his nose down on the wire. So confident was Blanco in the final strides that he put his whip away just before the line. Stopping the clock in 2m20s14/100 (a modest time, to be sure), Don Champagne(Long Island Sound) picked up third, though 6 lengths adrift.
Carrying the colors of Stud El Basti, bred by Haras Carampangue, and trained by the father-son duo of Juan Carlosand Juan Sebastián Maldotti, Nassau continues to solidify his standing among the top dirt stayers. In doing so, he validated the strong impression he made during 2025, when he finished second in the Clásico Jockey Club de la Provincia de Buenos Aires (G2)—uncoincidentally over the very same strip where he shone today.
