A champion seeking redemption; a current leader who stumbled and wants to bounce back; a rising star aiming to take it all; and several others hoping to pull off an upset—this is the intriguing scene shaping up for the 2025 edition of the Gran Premio Suipacha (G1–1000 m, turf), one of the season’s most important sprints, set to take place this afternoon at Hipódromo de San Isidro as part of the outstanding Gran Premio Jockey Club (G1) card.

Labrado (Le Blues), Le Cornette (Emmanuel), and Bailarín de Venecia (Angiolo) embody these storylines, joined by several others with high expectations trying to capitalize on a division that long had clearly defined leaders—first Luthier Blues (Le Blues) and later the three-time champion, who now refuses to live off past glories. No wonder 18 were confirmed, a very high number promising a tough contest.

Positioning out of the gate will be key, and drawn 14, Bailarín de Venecia looks ready to shine at the top level for the first time, following his impressive victory in the Clásico Cyllene (G2).

That day, Le Cornette was the favorite but delivered one of the worst races of his career. Soft ground may have worked against him, but with a firm course this time, there are no excuses, and he is expected to show the excellent form that carried him to wins in the Palermo Sprint (G1) of the Estrellas series and the Paraguay (G3).

As for Labrado, he recently ran two unplaced efforts—a first in his career—and here he is playing all or nothing. It’s a question of revival or retirement. While he may be flying under the radar, the respect due to a champion is undeniable.

The filly Sarzana Pass (Distinctiv Passion), colts El Madrugador (Il Campione) and Exclamación Pass (Distinctiv Passion), along with the consistent Hiran (Santillano), round out a strong list of contenders for what promises to be a truly exciting sprint showdown.
