Consistency has been hard to come by for Bichita de Luz, but on her good days, she’s nearly untouchable around a turn. Monday at Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo, the gray mare once again showcased her raw speed, posting a dominant victory in the Especial Taba (1200m, dirt), the feature of an entertaining card that drew a lively crowd.

With Maylena (Qué Vida Buena) scratched, only four went to post. Heavy favorites Save Your Tears (Full Mast) and Emely (Il Campione) dueled up front early, with the eventual winner tracking just a couple of lengths behind while Victoria Bayern (Santillano) brought up the rear, well detached.

In the stretch, Save Your Tears faded quickly and Emely tried to shake loose along the rail. But her fate was sealed—Bichita de Luz launched a furious rally down the center of the track, swept past, and never looked back.

From there, it was all one-way traffic, as the Caballeriza Mano Negra runner drew off to win by four lengths over Emely, with Victoria Bayern closing late to grab third, a half-length back. Save Your Tears faded to last, six lengths behind the winner. The final time was 1:10.37.

Bred by Haras El Mallín and trained by Marcelo Degregorio, Bichita de Luz has now won 6 of 13 starts, with four stakes victories to her name, having previously captured the Luis Monteverde (L), Vale Dori, and Snow Figure, with wins on every major dirt track.

The daughter of the late long-distance specialist Fragotero (Roman Ruler) is the fourth foal out of Una Bocha (Hurricane Cat), a full sister to G3 winner Ultima Cuota, from the family of the late undefeated Urbanizado (Slew Gin Fizz), top sprinter Urban Lady (Strategic Prince), and Ultra Urbano (Stra Dabbler).

Jorge Peralta was in the irons, adding yet another highlight to his red-hot run in the saddle.
