The Uncle Mo colt topped the Keeneland November Horses of Racing Age Sale, selling to KAS Stable

LEXINGTON, Kentucky (Special to Turf Diario)—The Keeneland November Horses of Racing Age Saledelivered a historic session on Wednesday, highlighted by the $1.3-million sale of Bishops Bay, the highest price ever achieved since this section of the auction was created in 2022. The multiple graded stakes–winning son of Uncle Mo was purchased by Pedro Lanz, acting as agent for KAS Stables, and became the undisputed star of a closing session that capped an exceptionally strong 2025 sales season with upward trends across the board and deep demand for ready-to-run horses.
At five years old, Bishops Bay arrived with impeccable current form: just ten days earlier, he had captured the Forty Niner Stakes (G3) at Belmont at The Big A, adding to a trio of 2025 graded wins that also included the Salvator Mile (G3) and Westchester (G3). Consigned by Elite, he boasts 8 wins from 12 starts and $702,800 in earnings, and will remain under the care of Brad Cox.
Lanz, who described him as “a very honest horse,” confirmed that Bishops Bay will stay in the U.S., with a possible run in the Cigar Mile (G2) on December 6 at Aqueduct, and longer-range targets such as the Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1) in January or the Saudi Cup (G1) in February.
“He’s been on my radar all year,” Lanz said. “We expected strong competition for him. For me, he was the best horse available— a two-turn runner with the physique and heart of a champion.”
The purchase also sealed Lanz’s status as leading buyer of the sale, while Elite topped the consignor standings with $5.37 million in sales for 41 horses.
“We treat this day like our Super Bowl,” said Liz Crow, Elite’s co-founder. “Bishops Bay showed his class in every moment, and we believe he has the potential to become an important stallion once his racing career concludes.”
The sale also produced strong overall numbers:
108 horses sold
Gross: $10,455,000 (+21.4% vs. 2024)
Average: $96,806 (+18%)
Median: $40,000
“It was a powerful finish to an extraordinary sales season,” noted Tony Lacy, Keeneland’s vice president of sales. “The record price reflects sustained demand for race-ready horses and the confidence shown by both buyers and sellers.”
Other Notable Transactions
World Record (Gun Runner), a G2 winner, sold for $900,000 to RRR Racing.
Crevalle d’Oro (Medaglia d’Oro) was purchased for $500,000 by Meah/Lloyd Bloodstock.
Burning Glory (Into Mischief), a close relative of newly crowned champion Scylla (Tapit), brought $475,000 to Chad Schumer, agent for KGS.
Crudo, a Justify colt—winner of the Sir Barton Stakes at Pimlico and second in the Dwyer (L)—was sold to NAJD Stud for $350,000.
With Bishops Bay’s record-breaking price and strong demand across all sectors, Keeneland closes its annual sales calendar with a clear message: the racing-age market is surging, fueled by quality, global participation, and the relentless search for the sport’s next major star.
