Undefeated in five starts during 2026 and winner of three consecutive G1 events, the Andrew Balding star will be a heavy favorite this Saturday in the Sun Chariot Stakes (G1)

NEWMARKET, England (Special for Turf Diario).— Blue Bolt has constructed a flawless campaign throughout 2026, but this Saturday she will return to the site of one of the defeats she has yet to avenge. Juddmonte’s formidable filly will be the heavy favorite in the Sun Chariot Stakes (G1-1,600 m), though this time she will not have to face Fallen Angel (Too Darn Hot), last year's winner, who handled her decisively twelve months ago.

That result was decisive: two and a quarter lengths separated the pair at the wire as the winner produced the defining performance of her career. Her mark was rated as the highest achieved by a Sun Chariot Stakes winner over the past 20 years, with the sole exception of Inspiral (Frankel) in 2023.

Much has changed since then. Blue Bolt arrives now as one of the towering figures of the European season. The Andrew Balding trainee has won all five of her starts in 2026, with the last three coming at the highest level.

Her most recent appearance came in the Matron Stakes (G1), where she once again proved superior and maintained her perfect record. That afternoon, she relegated City of Memphis (Sioux Nation) to second, and the latter will now travel to Newmarket seeking revenge for trainer Paddy Twomey.

A Field of Just Seven The Sun Chariot Stakes was reduced to a field of seven after several key defections.

Aidan O’Brien will ultimately go unrepresented, as neither Precise (Starspangledbanner) nor True Love (No Nay Never) were confirmed.

Karl Burke will not have Fallen Angel in his arsenal, but he will saddle Evolutionist (Night of Thunder), runner-up in the 1000 Guineas (G1) and another filly with proven top-level pedigree.

Saffie Osborne, who is enjoying a banner season capped by her recent triumph in the St. Leger Stakes (G1), will target another major prize aboard Calendar Girl (Advertise).

The lineup is completed by Kon Tiki (Night of Thunder), Moon Target (Cracksman), and Secret of Life(Pinatubo).

Yet all eyes will inevitably be focused on Blue Bolt. Her campaign also explains why Colin Keane opted to remain at Newmarket on Saturday despite having opportunities to ride at ParisLongchamp. The jockey boasts five G1 victories this season, and three of them have come in tandem with Balding’s brilliant filly.

Twenty-four hours later he will be in France to pilot Kalpana (Study of Man) in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (G1), but first, he will look to keep Blue Bolt’s stellar 2026 streak unbroken.
