Sprint racing, both on the straightaway and around the turn, will dominate the stakes schedule next week at Palermo and San Isidro.
At Palermo, the highlights arrive on Sunday, January 18, featuring the Clásico General Francisco B. Bosch (G3-1000m, dirt) and the Clásico Intendente Melchor A. Posse (L-1200m, turf). The former is open to fillies and mares 3-year-olds and up, while the latter is for all horses aged 3 and older.
Only 6 were nominated for the Bosch: Enjoy Dancing (Hi Happy), Envidiada (Il Campione), Fantastic Bomb (Hit It a Bomb), Flamboyance Rim (Remote), La Mykonos (Mask), and Lissette Island (Lizard Island).
Meanwhile, looking ahead to the Posse, which drew just 5 probable starters, all eyes are on the potential return of El Fortín (Il Campione). The winner of the Gran Premio Félix de Alzaga Unzué (G1) is set to begin his campaign away from the straight course. The Stud San José de Ecuador standout could face seasoned rivals such as Beauty Sea (Seahenge), Garboso Frank (Gidu), Glorioso Rim (Remote), and Mopti (Orpen).
Palermo will open its doors again on Monday, the 19th, centered around the Handicap Rafale (1400m, dirt). For 5-year-old and up winning mares, the race could field up to 14 runners, with Blessed Shine (Honour Devil) assigned the high weight of 61 kg.
Over at San Isidro, the selection process for 2-year-olds kicks off on Friday with the perennially interesting Clásico Congreve (L-1000m, turf) for juveniles. The race drew a healthy list of 12 nominees: Cadiz (Strategos), Chuhaister (Le Ken), El Pirata (Il Campione), Elvi Security (Victor Security), Enter the Club (The Great Day), Full Lujoso (Full Mast), Great Wizard (Pinball Wizard), Lebron Blues (Le Blues), Mayan Goddess (Made You Look), Risitas Pass (Distinctiv Passion), Siete Lagos (Full Mast), and Sixties Pen (Sixties Icon).
Regarding the Wednesday, January 21 card, the Jockey Club's venue will offer the Especial Parlanchín (1200m, dirt)as the main event. Reserved for 5-year-olds and up with 3 career wins, this race reflects the new format found to further reduce purses for this category—a clear blow to owners. There are 9 nominees, including Beauty Sea, Cerrito Piñón (Manipulator), Flying to the Sky (Señor Candy), and Río Felipín (Grand Reward).
