The son of Strategos won wire-to-wire, cementing his status among the top young sprinters at La Plata Racecourse
LA PLATA—On the strength of a standout performance, Cadiz is steadily establishing himself as the premier sprint authority among the young division racing at the local oval. Following a impressive showing nearly two months ago in a special event, the grey stepped up his game to comfortably capture Tuesday's Clásico Jockey Club de Azul (L), contested over 1,100 meters on a fast dirt track.
In an uneven contest where a couple of runners turned in thoroughly uninspired efforts—and still walked away with purse money...—the son of Strategos was the undisputed master from gate to wire, turning the feature into a total runaway.
Guided by Wilson Moreyra, the favorite broke sharply and wasted no time seizing command, opening a clear margin over Ciro Prince (Strategic Prince), Joy Conquistador (Roman Joy), and Qué Vida Dura (Qué Vida Buena), who all attempted to give chase.
Naturally, none of the trio could come close to posing a genuine threat to the winner, who expanded his advantage with supreme ease once hitting the stretch, lengthening smoothly toward the wire. The finish post found him a casual four lengths ahead of Joy Conquistador, while Ciro Prince completed the trifecta another two lengths back, a neck ahead of Qué Vida Dura.
A distant 15 lengths behind them, Beach Stars (Treasure Beach) finished fifth, while The Great Emotion (Emotion Parade) finished far out of contention—both remaining maidens, and judging by what was on display, likely to stay that way for quite some time. The winning time for the feature of the day was 1m4s38/100, posted without split times, which have been non-functional for several weeks now (an inconceivable failure at this stage, it must be said).
Schooled by Mauricio Bortulé, Cadiz carries the colors of the Rosario-based stable J.N.R., and now boasts a record of three victories from eight starts, with just a single unplaced finish, bringing his total earnings to 27,265,500 pesos.
He becomes the eighth black-type winner sired by champion Strategos, out of the Angiolo mare Avellina—a full sister to G3 winner Amo y Señor who had already produced non-graded stakes winner Lo Dejo Todo (Le Blues) and two-time La Plata winner Teodellina (Mootasadir), from the damline of Tarlacea (Triplicador).
