LA PLATA.- LA PLATA, ARGCalle de Tierra (Strategos) couldn't have asked for a better start to her campaign. Despite a brief moment of uncertainty at the top of the lane, Stud El Gruñón’s bay filly delivered a clinical performance Tuesday to capture the Clásico Santiago Luro (1100m, dirt), the featured event of an attractive card at El Bosque.

Coming off a runner-up finish to La Meninha (Le Blues) on Nov. 19, the daughter of Strategos was in the thick of it from the break. She sparred early with the surprise favorite Verdadera Pass (Distinctiv Passion) while Texana Rye (Nashville Texan) loomed wide to join the fray.

Upon entering the stretch, the winner appeared to lose her focus momentarily, allowing Texana Rye to briefly poke her head in front. However, jockey Walter Aguirre quickly gathered the Luis H. Domínguez trainee, and she responded gamely to right-handed urging. Once straightened away, Calle de Tierra took command and drew off with authority, hitting the wire six lengths clear. Texana Rye held second, a neck ahead of Foto Mental (Leofric), while La de Dudi(Aspire) and a disappointing Verdadera Pass rounded out the order of finish. The final time was a sharp 1:04.49 following blistering fractions of :22.57 and :45.90.

Bred by Haras El Paraíso, the 3-year-old was a precocious talent who debuted early and now boasts an impressive six wins from ten career starts—all of which have come in stakes company. Her previous triumphs include the Especial Precoces (trial and final), the Nueva Generación, the Clásico Derli A. Gómez (G3), and the Raúl Lottero (L), with her only setbacks occurring when tested at longer distances.

The first foal out of La Campagne (Le Blues), from the immediate family of top sprinter El Epecuén (Il Campione), Calle de Tierra remains the undisputed queen of the La Plata sprint division around the turn, with a bright season of stakes opportunities ahead.
