LA PLATA.- The starting gates have been playing a prominent role in the selection process for the fillies at La Plata. Just a few days ago, Calle de Tierra (Strategos) was withdrawn before the start, and the Clásico Amilcar A. Mercader (L) was handed on a silver platter to Baby Pass (Distinctiv Passion), as the expected duel never took place. This Tuesday, it was Baby Pass who suffered the misfortune, starting from the back and making the task easier for Calle de Tierra, who, despite her main rival’s misstep, ended up winning with great ease in the Clásico Derli A. Gómez (G3) over 1200 meters, extending her unbeaten record to 4-for-4.

The unfortunate event almost entirely removed the interest from the race, which honor the legendary local trainer. It is true that Sahara Reward (Grand Reward) tried to put pressure on the winner early, and Baby Pass had to rush from the start in a track that was almost impossible due to its heaviness, in hopes of a miracle. But once they reached the straight, the race lacked excitement.

Guided by Walter Aguirre through the center of the track, the Stud El Gruñón representative steadied herself and reached the line comfortably, finishing 6 lengths ahead of Sahara Reward, who held on to second place. Baby Pass, exhausted, crossed the line 1 ½ lengths further back in third, with Elenika (Winning Prize) and Pitucona Pass (Distinctiv Passion) finishing further behind.

The time posted by Calle de Tierra, trained by Luis H. Domínguez, was 1m15s27/100, in line with the track conditions, after fractions of 24s38/100 and 49s18/100.

Bred by Haras El Paraíso, and part of the promising first crop of champion Strategos (Zensational), Calle de Tierra is the first foal of La Campagne (Le Blues), a granddaughter of the late Fe (Bartender's Pride), one of the mares who came to the Victoria Pueyrredón and Pablo Duggan stud farm from the now-defunct Haras Los Sauces, where she already produced quality racehorses such as the stakes winners Spirited (Sebi Halo) and Infinita Fe (Intérprete), and the equally accomplished El Epecuen (Il Campione).

Calle de Tierra remains unbeaten and leads the 2-year-old fillies at El Bosque, threatening to maintain that position for the foreseeable future.
