COUNTY KILDARE, Ireland (Special to Turf Diario) – Coolmore has announced that Camille Pissarro, winner of both the Prix du Jockey Club (G1) and the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere (G1), will join its stallion roster beginning with the 2026 breeding season, bringing with him an ideal blend of class, precocity, and classic stamina.

By the late Wootton Bassett and out of the Pivotal mare Entreat, Camille Pissarro is a half-brother to champion Golden Horde (Lethal Force), hero of the Commonwealth Cup (G1) and Richmond Stakes (G2). Bred by Cn Farm, he was purchased by M.V. Magnier and White Birch Farm for $1,585,060 at the 2023 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.

Trained by Aidan O’Brien and carrying the Coolmore partners’ silks, Camille Pissarro made a winning debut at two at Navan, before finishing a close second to Arizona Blaze (Sergei Prokofiev) in the Marble Hill Stakes (G3) and earning another Group placing in the Anglesey Stakes (G3). His breakthrough came in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere (G1) at ParisLongchamp, where he defeated the likes of Rashabar (Holy Roman Emperor)—winner of the Coventry Stakes (G2)—and multiple Group 1 scorer Field of Gold (Kingman).

At three, Camille Pissarro ran a game second in the Gladness Stakes (G3) and third in the Poule d’Essai des Poulains (G1) before sealing his classic credentials with victory in the Prix du Jockey Club (G1) at Chantilly. His final start came in the Eclipse Stakes (G1), finishing fourth behind stablemate Delacroix (Dubawi), after which he sustained the injury that prompted his retirement.

“Camille Pissarro is a tremendous addition to our stallion roster,” said David O’Loughlin on behalf of Coolmore. “Losing Wootton Bassett was a huge blow, but we have every confidence Camille Pissarro will carry the torch forward. He bears a striking resemblance to his sire—many even say he’s the better-looking horse. Like Wootton Bassett, he captured both the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere and the prestigious Prix du Jockey Club, a combination that has produced outstanding sires. His pedigree blends Group 1 speed with the ability to stretch it to 2100 meters.”

Camille Pissarro’s stud fee for 2026 will be announced at a later date.
