The son of Strategos captured the Clásico Vilas Light; he broke very quickly and lost some energy in the closing stages, with Vampiro Zen finishing as the runner-up

LA PLATA—Sent off as the heavy favorite, Campo Verde responded in the best possible way by capturing the Clásico Vilas Light, the feature race of the atypical card held this Friday at the local track.

The son of the remarkable Strategos maintained his undefeated status at the "track of the eucalyptus trees" and secured his second stakes victory, establishing himself over 1400 meters, though still leaving the impression that there is work to be done regarding his stamina.

Brave and fast, the Miguel Cafere trainee shot out of the gates and quickly moved to the front of the compact field. At his heels, Colour Vision (Univision) attempted to give chase, while the rest of the participants sat further back, looking somewhat uncomfortable.

Campo Verde traveled very fast, and perhaps therein lies the reason for a finish that lacked a bit of polish. He covered the opening 400 meters in 22s80/100 and the 800 in 45s79/100. As they hit the stretch, the margin between the leader and the rest widened, with the bay covering the final stages with the comfort of a secured victory.

Closing from behind, Vampiro Zen (Zensational) made up ground to finish second, two lengths back, with Super Number (Super Saver) shaking off a massive layoff (612 days) to cross the wire third, another three lengths behind. The final time was 1m24s31/100.

Racing for Stud Mamina and bred by Haras El Paraíso, Campo Verde is navigating the transition from pure sprinting—having won the 2025 Estrellas Junior Sprint (G3)—toward middle distances. In this learning phase, conserving energy at the start to have reserve air for the finish will be fundamental.

That is where the hand of Miguel Cafere will come in, as he seeks to help the horse gain serenity and stamina in his morning works before tackling longer trips. With two consecutive stakes wins over 1400 meters, a test in the mile is becoming almost mandatory, but those refinements will be essential for the story to end with a smile once again.

Campo Verde is growing, maturing, and winning—the perfect combination. He has talent to spare and makes sure to prove it in every performance.
