The filly capped off a strong stakes double for Stud El Káiser over the weekend
LA PLATA.— Stud El Káiser enjoyed a weekend worthy of a picture frame. On Friday at Palermo, Lissette Island(Lizard Island) crossed the line first in the Clásico México (G3); this Sunday at the local oval, another sprinter carrying the Cordoban colors, Candylejas, made her presence felt by capturing the Clásico Wilfredo Latham (L-1,100m, normal dirt), preserving her undefeated status and capping a truly remarkable stakes double for the silks.
Following a promising official debut on Palermo's dirt, the daughter of Señor Candy validated those good impressions on her first visit to the eucalyptus track, putting away a short field of just 4 rivals with minimal fuss and fully delivering on her heavy favoritism.
Entrusted to Martín Valle, the dark bay presented by Germán Knuttsen tracked the early leader Amiguita Casual(Todo Un Amiguito) closely, took control past the mid-stretch mark, and pulled away with supreme authority.
The wire saw her 4 lengths clear of that rival, while Ossira Win (Gershwin) completed the trifecta a further 6 lengths behind in a race that proved entirely one-sided. The winner stopped the clock in 1:05.04.
Bred by Haras La Fortaleza—which also celebrated a stakes double of its own, as Lissette Island was born there as well—Candylejas reasserted her class in this step up in grade and emerges as a prime name to follow, whether in local sprinting events for fillies, a division that always offers solid stakes, or should she return to Palermo or test the waters at San Isidro.
