Argentine-Bred Eyes G1 Glory this Saturday at Saratoga Following Strong Third-Place U.S. Debut

SARATOGA SPRINGS, New York—The step up in class will be monumental, but it also represents the kind of rare opportunity that seldom comes along. Argentine-bred Carmensita (Arg) (Treasure Beach {GB}—[Dam], by [Broodmare Sire]) faces the ultimate test of her career this Saturday as she targets the prestigious G1 Belmont Oaks Invitation Stakes. The historic nine-furlong turf feature, boasting a $600,000 purse, will bring together several of the world's elite 3-year-old fillies at Saratoga.
Having regularly faced the top routers of her generation at San Isidro, the daughter of Treasure Beach is beginning a new chapter in the United States, where she looks to prove her high-caliber form in Argentina can translate to racing’s absolute highest tier.
After checking in second in the G1 Gran Premio Enrique Acebal and third in the G2 Clásico Federico de Alvear, the Club Sixty Five Racing colorbearer made her North American debut on June 6, finishing a solid third in a Saratogaallowance heat. While that season opener carried significantly less pressure than this weekend's assignment, it served as a crucial acclimatization tool and left her connections satisfied heading into the primary objective.
The landscape, however, will be vastly different now. The Horacio De Paz trainee must confront a deep international field headlined by European invaders Abashiri {Ire} (Frankel {GB}) and Kensington Lane {Ire}(Starspangledbanner {Aus}), both of whom arrive with top-level classic credentials in Ireland and England.
Abashiri is particularly imposing. Bred by Godolphin and conditioned by Charlie Appleby, the daughter of Frankelenters off a third-place finish in the G1 Irish 1,000 Guineas—a formline that was heavily flattered when its key protagonists came back to shine at Royal Ascot. Her trainer previously captured this classic in 2025 and returns well-armed for another prominent showing.
Kensington Lane is also a major threat. Under the care of Donnacha O'Brien, she ran a respectable fifth in that same Irish 1,000 Guineas renewal on the heels of a score in the G3 Athasi Stakes. She lands stateside with an ambitious second-half campaign mapped out across the country's marquee turf events.
The domestic contingent presents plenty of firepower as well. Faithful Departed (Yoshida {Jpn}) steps up off a commanding victory in the G3 Regret Stakes; Imaginationthelady (Not This Time) hits the peak of her form cycle following a triumph in the G2 Edgewood Stakes; and Fitz Right (Charlatan) will attempt to secure another trophy for perennial turf mastermind Chad Brown following her recent score in the G2 Wonder Again Stakes.
Given the depth of competition, Carmensita looms as a definitive outsider—especially while conceding four pounds to her rivals due to her Southern Hemisphere birth cycle (125 pounds to 121). Nonetheless, the racing experience gained in her U.S. premiere and her proven classic foundation in Argentina provide reasons for optimism. Jockey Ricardo Santana Jr. has been tasked with the riding assignment from gate seven, in a test where tactical positioning and trip parameters tend to be decisive.
Since its inception, the Belmont Oaks has served as a proving ground for the generation's premier grass specialists. Europe has taken four of the last eight renewals and lands with formidable credentials once more, but the South American contingent will find a determined ambassador in Carmensita as she steps into the international spotlight.
The task will be far from simple—on the contrary, it will demand a career-best performance from the Argentine filly. Yet, it remains an ideal platform to write a new chapter overseas, offering an immediate gauge of her standing against the very best fillies in the world.
