Carrying an incredibly favorable assignment of 55 1/2 kg., the son of Il Campione drawing away to a three-length victory over Colour Vision to complete the feature-race double for conditioner Marcelo Sueldo and jockey Gonzalo Borda

LA PLATA.- BUENOS AIRES, Argentina— The intricate methodology utilized by Argentine handicappers when distributing weight assignments remains a perplexing puzzle for local turf observers, and Tuesday’s Handicap Haras La Providencia going 1,200 meters over a fast dirt track offered a glaring case in point.
Escape Room (Il Campione) entered the gate coming off a brilliant runner-up performance behind top miler Drive Joy (Fortify) in the prestigious Gran Premio de las Américas - OSAF (G1) at Palermo just two starts back. Despite those elite credentials, he was inexplicably assigned a featherweight of 55 kg. Conversely, Colour Vision (Univisión)—a consistent performer at the local allowance and low-level stakes tier—was tasked with carrying the 60 kg. highweight.
Under such highly favorable terms, the race was billed as a virtual exercise for the Stud Pauli colorbearer, and the four-year-old colt did not disappoint. Sent off as the heavy $1.50 market favorite by astute horseplayers, the generous bay turned the handicap into a one-sided showcase.
Cutting back sharply in distance while facing a significant drop in class, Escape Room engaged in a brief, early tactical battle with Colour Vision on the front end before effortlessly shifting gears at the top of the stretch. The son of Il Campione drew clear in hand down the lane to secure a commanding three-length victory, stopping the clock in a blistering 1:09.87—missing the track record held by stablemate Es Aristocrático (Angiolo) by a mere 60/100ths of a second.
Bred by Triple Alliance, Escape Room has now compiled a record of five victories from 15 lifetime starts. The versatile colt has proven effective from six furlongs to a mile, a tactical range that becomes lethal when gifted such a lenient assignment by the racing office.
The triumph also marked another major milestone for jockey Gonzalo Borda and trainer Marcelo Sueldo, who capped an exceptional afternoon by securing a stakes double following their earlier success with Doña Súper in the Especial Doctrinaria Slew.
