There was every indication that—barring something unforeseen—Causeway Girl would be extremely hard to beat. And when pressure met reality, the Al Adiyaat mare delivered exactly as expected, cruising to a trouble-free victory in Friday’s feature, the Polar Star Handicap (1400m, dirt) at San Isidro, opening a weekend double that continues with Saturday’s higher-profile card.

A dual stakes winner at two and coming off a similar score in Palermo’s Handicap Potrizars, the daughter of Dabstershowed little concern for the hefty 60.5 kilos on her back. She handled the assignment with the composure of a mare clearly above this level. Jockey Juan Carlos Noriega only had to keep her out of harm’s way to get the job done.

The veteran reinsman placed the José Cristóbal Blanco-trained filly in a stalking position outside the pacesetter Joy Traviesa (Fortify, 55), while Che Solita (Zensational, 54) applied pressure along the rail.

Turning for home, it was Che Solita who launched the first challenge. Noriega, fully aware of how weight can betray a horse if asked too soon, waited a few extra strides before pushing the button. At the 300-meter mark, he asked in earnest—and Causeway Girl responded exactly as a class mare should, quickening sharply, taking command, and drawing clear.

At the wire, she was 3 1/2 lengths in front of a game Joy Traviesa, with Lancara (Manipulator, 54) rallying from farther back to take third by half a neck. Che Solita and Mehora (Fortify, 53) completed the small field, 3/4 and 1/2 lengths behind, respectively. Final time was 1:23.12, after steady splits of :24.71, :48.22, and 1:10.98.

Out of the highly productive Autografiada (Giant’s Causeway) and a sister to stakes winner Legalized and the talented Auto Bahn (Asiatic Boy), Causeway Girl now looks poised for a return to stakes company.
