A solid Saturday card is on tap at San Isidro, although most of the day’s condition races will move from turf to the dirt track. Still, turf specialists will get their moment in the spotlight in the feature event—the G3 Clásico General Las Heras, a 1400-meter diagonal test for older fillies and mares.

A competitive and evenly-matched lineup is expected, with Causeway Girl (Dabster) set to break from the outside post 13 but looking to recapture the form that saw her win over this same trip and surface in the Clásico Empiric as a juvenile.

Racing for Al Adiyaat, the dark bay was sidelined for five months following that win, returning in mid-March to finish third behind Guiltless (Full Mast) in the Clásico Farnesio on the Palermo lawn. She then had the misfortune of facing the red-hot Coni Fizz (Marconi) in the G3 Asociación de Propietarios de Caballos de Carrera, running second while beaten five lengths. That form received a major boost when Coni Fizz returned Friday to romp in another graded event at Palermo, lending strong credibility to Causeway Girl’s candidacy.

The pace scenario promises to be lively, with the speedy duo of Candy and Giant (Giant’s Pleasure) and Early Life(Suggestive Boy) both likely to gun for the early lead. A pace duel could take its toll on both, especially given that the turf is not expected to play kind.

Among those hoping to capitalize is Fiesta Porteña (Fortify), who rises to stakes company for the first time after winning 3 of her 4 starts in the condition ranks. Also in the mix is Champion Craf (Mastercraftsman), who upset none other than Coni Fizz by a neck in the Clásico Doria over the same course and distance. That race also included Look Happy (Hi Happy), third by just a neck and another contender here.

With strong recent form, proven class, and a return to her most successful track, Causeway Girl will have her share of backers—wide draw or not—in what promises to be an intriguing edition of the General Las Heras.
