LA PLATA.- In another solid demonstration, Chichipío had no trouble handling the 1200 meters of the Clásico Agustín B. Gambier (G3), securing his second consecutive stakes victory and maintaining his dominance among the 2-year-olds competing on the dirt at the local track.

The race also served as further proof of the near-absolute dominance trainer Marcelo Sueldo is exerting with his juveniles. In this instance, he achieved a 1-2 finish, as Full Lujoso (Full Mast), another of his trainees, finished as the runner-up 2 1/2 lengths behind the winner.

Just two weeks after his triumph in the Clásico Criadores Argentinos del Sangre Pura de Carrera (L), the son of Angiolo benefited perfectly from the rescheduling of the Gambier from its original date, as he had not been included in the initial list of entries.

Under jockey Jorge Peralta, the bay did not take the lead this time. Instead, he allowed El Brigadier (Mask)—yet another Sueldo trainee—to set the early pace with an opening fraction of 23.85s. The leader’s tenure at the front was short-lived, as the eventual winner overhauled him mid-turn.

In the homestretch, Chichipío asserted himself. While Full Lujoso rallied from further back in an attempt to catch him, his efforts proved futile against his rival’s powerful closing kick. Finishing 7 lengths back, the maiden Inalcanzable (El Changarín) claimed the final spot on the board. The final time for the race was 1m12.63s on a fast track, with a 800-meter split of 49.18s.

Bred by Alberto Ibañez and racing for his Stud Parque Patricios, Chichipío now boasts 3 wins in 4 starts. His only defeat came in the Clásico Guillermo Kemmis (G3) at Palermo, where he finished last in a completely uncharacteristic performance.

Chichipío continues to display talent while adapting to new challenges. With Grade 1 winner Stormy Nirvana (Bernstein) as his third dam—part of the formidable Nipona (Babas Fables) family—and being a brother to G2-placed Miss Kalima (Seahenge), his pedigree suggests that his dominance may extend well beyond early precocity and speed.
