As expected, Citadel Love led the way at the Gran Venta Anual of Haras Las Retamas, which offered its entire 2023 crop through Fallow Remates in a live online format.

The chestnut colt, foaled August 15, 2023, brought US$39,000—the highest price of the day—purchased by trainer Agustín Pavlovsky, acting on commission. A son of Cityscape (Selkirk), Citadel Love is a half-brother to Dark Love (In the Dark), Argentina’s 2023 Champion 2-Year-Old Male and winner of the G1 Gran Premio Estrellas Juvenile.

Citadel Love is out of Lovely Lady (Honour and Glory), a half-sister to G1 winner Pretty Girl (Harlan’s Holiday) and Una Diosa (Catcher In the Rye), the dam of stakes winner Un Rayo (Easing Along), giving the colt a deep and active pedigree.

The second-highest price of the day was Jazz Funk, a colt by proven sire Fortify (Distorted Humor) and the second foal out of G2 winner Jasminka (Mutakddim). He was also secured by Pavlovsky, on commission, for US$37,000.

Completing the top trio was Enya, a filly by standout runner Hi Happy (Pure Prize) out of Enumerada (Jump Start), a half-sister to Peruvian black-type performer El Coropuna (Orpen), from the well-known “E” family. She was purchased for US$35,000 by Caballeriza Las Monjitas.

Total sales revenue reached US$271,500, marking another solid edition of one of Argentina’s most respected youngstock auctions.
