LA PLATA.- The string of major races for Argentine turf continues this Tuesday at Hipódromo de Palermo, with a new edition of the always-important Clásico General José de San Martín (G3), where the mile crown will be up for grabs.

A star-studded field will line up, with the July 9 – Día de la Independencia (G3) serving as the main source of contenders. In that race, making his first local start, Sabiyano (Fortify) delivered a standout performance, defeating Indy Pro (Indy Point) by 1 ½ lengths. Indy Pro benefited from the favorite Monsieur Delon (Il Campione) being checked and ultimately finishing third.

All three will meet again, with Sabiyano expected to confirm his recent form, and Monsieur Delon aiming to return to the level he showed when capturing the Clásico 25 de Mayo de 1810 (G2).

The race promises even more intrigue with Storm Sound (Hi Happy), stepping up after a 1800-meter effort in the Clásico Perú (G2) at Palermo, where he finished fifth behind Vota Bien (Hi Happy). Previously on this course, he had won the Clásico About Today.

Accustomed to racing near the lead, the Porteño colt will have to contend with El Patio (Il Campione), last year’s winner of this very race, whose most recent effort was a sixth in the Gran Premio Estrellas Mile (G1).

Adding more fire to the mix is Yak Sport (Glory Seattle), expected to go straight to the front in pursuit of the big win his connections have long envisioned.

Trainer Juan Saldivia brings another key contender in El Cobra Kai (Cosmic Trigger), coming off a runner-up finish in the Handicap Pronto ahead of Puro de Cuba (Long Island Sound), and should not be overlooked.

Finally, Notable Island (Lizard Island), who shone late in 2024 but is now below that level, and Equal Romano (Equal Legítimo), a lightly raced but effective runner, complete the competitive lineup.

The stage is set for an exciting mile showdown, with multiple top-class colts vying for supremacy in one of Palermo’s most anticipated races.
