The farm held its first annual yearling sale, and the daughter of Gouverneur Morris stole the spotlight in the ring, drawing attention from a large crowd of attendees

Alberto and Renata Stein had to bring in extra tables and chairs for the First Annual Yearling Sale at Haras La Leyenda, held Thursday at the farm's picturesque location just off Route 41 near San Antonio de Areco. The event, organized by Racehorse, delivered both a festive atmosphere and strong commercial results, with all offerings sold and turning into dreams in the making.
Topping the sale was Cocomi, a gray daughter of Gouverneur Morris (Constitution), who continues to prove his worth both on the track and in the ring. Born July 18, Cocomi was knocked down for US$60,000—to be paid in 10 installments—to Oscar Gómez. She is the second foal out of Candy Embrujada (Storm Embrujado), from the same female family as the legendary Candy Ride (Ride the Rails).
The second-highest price of the day came for Okuni, part of the first crop by Sovereign (Galileo), an Irish Derby (G1) winner. Sold for US$50,000 to Juan Carlos Bianchi, acting as agent, the filly is a half-sister to Peruvian champion Mr. Bailetti (Exchange Rate) and G2-placed stakes winner Opus Alpha (Cima de Triomphe). Her dam, Opera Lily (Street Cry), is a full sister to Folk Melody, producer of international standout Romantic Warrior (Acclamation).
Rounding out the top trio was Nunca Taxi, another by Gouverneur Morris, who brought US$35,000 from Gustavo Romero, acting through agent Sebastián Di Nucci. The colt is a half-brother to G2-placed Ninetta (Horse Greeley) and two other winners.
In all, 22 yearlings went through the ring, grossing US$403,150, for an average of US$18,325 and a median of US$16,715.
