The brilliant Aidan O'Brien trainee comfortably overcame mid-race complications to secure his fourth consecutive victory, further fueling anticipation for a highly awaited showdown against Ombudsman

SANDOWN, England (Special for Turf Diario).— Delivering a masterclass that emphatically erased any lingering doubts about his immense potential, Constitution River captured the Coral-Eclipse Stakes (G1) at Sandown Park on Saturday, firmly establishing himself as arguably Europe's premier three-year-old over intermediate distances.

The exceptional son of Wootton Bassett handed master trainer Aidan O'Brien a historic fourth consecutive victory in the summer showpiece and his tenth overall triumph in the classic. However, the path to victory was far more complex than the authoritative three-length margin of victory might suggest.

As the field hit the center of the home straight, the heavy betting favorite found himself hopelessly locked in along the rail with nowhere to go. He was firmly pinned behind his stablemate Hawk Mountain (Wootton Bassett), while the pacemaker Flushing Meadows (Wootton Bassett) still set the tempo and Gethin (Ghaiyyath) launched a looming threat from the outside.

Yet, champion jockey Ryan Moore remained the ultimate picture of patience. The moment King's Gambit (Saxon Warrior) began to weaken, Moore engineered just enough racing room, switched his mount off the rail, and inside a matter of strides, Constitution River found his daylight. Once fully extricated, the colt unleashed a devastating, almost effortless turn of foot to claim command, leaving the distinct impression that he barely scratched the surface of his true engine.

"He got a little bit idle when he got to the front," Moore later explained, indicating that the brilliant sophomore never truly needed to be extended to secure the prize.

The legendary Irish conditioner could not hide his immense enthusiasm following another spectacular display from his stable star. "Ryan told me that he doesn't think he’s ever ridden a better horse," O'Brien revealed with a smile, playfully questioning whether that high praise was actually meant to be shared with the public.

"I’m absolutely delighted. He put on more weight today than ever before. Ryan had to move him a little bit earlier than he ideally wanted to, but he is just constantly maturing. He’s a big, scopey horse with tremendous size. From day one, he did things that were special, and we’ve always felt that we haven't seen his absolute limit yet. He is progressing all the time, he loves his racing, and he has immense class and speed. We are just thrilled with him," O'Brien added.

The Ballydoyle braintrust now plans to give the colt a brief freshener before mapping out his next target. While O'Brien stopped short of locking in a definitive schedule, he acknowledged that the Juddmonte International Stakes (G1) at York—setting up a mouthwatering clash against the brilliant Ombudsman (Night of Thunder)—remains a highly prominent option on the table.

The runner-up honors went to A Boy Named Susie (Starspangledbanner), trained by Donnacha O'Brien, who closed with tremendous courage to edge Hawk Mountain by a neck for second. The result completed a clean sweep for the O'Brien dynasty, occupying the top three slots on the board.

Well beaten in fourth, nearly five lengths further back, was Saddadd (Pinatubo), while Gethin, who had entered the race as one of the primary threats to the favorite, completely faded out of contention during the business end of the stretch. His trainer, Owen Burrows, offered no immediate explanation to the stewards regarding the unexpected performance.

On the heels of a magnificent victory in the Prix du Jockey Club (G1) at Chantilly and this commanding validation at Sandown, Constitution River has not only consolidated his status as the clear leader of Europe's three-year-old crop, but has also set the stage for an extraordinary showdown against Ombudsman—a heavyweight duel that promises to finally bring together the two titans currently ruling the international turf division.
