Held in high regard since day one, Orpen Rimout is slowly but surely living up to the faith placed in her by Los Apóstoles. Bouncing back from a disappointing run in the G1 Gran Premio Criadores and cutting back significantly in distance, the daughter of Remote easily dispatched a competitive field to land Friday’s featured Hándicap Bernardo A., Adolfo P. y Aníbal J. Giovanetti (1400 meters, wet dirt) at the Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo, a race that paid tribute to one of the most storied surnames in Argentine racing.

Carrying a manageable impost of 56.5 kilos, the bay filly honored her bloodlines, excelling over the same trip once mastered by her dam Orpen Fain (Orpen), a multiple stakes winner, while also boasting close ties to top sprinters La Quipa (Southern Halo) and her son Asset (Salt Lake).

Orpen Rimout's talent and speed were on full display from the outset as she pressed the early tempo set by Ataka (Señor Candy, 60 kilos), who never looked comfortable under a questionable weight assignment set at the time of entries.

Once in the stretch, what had been a general impression turned into reality as the eventual winner gradually took over and pulled clear with authority, unfazed by the late bid of Bichita de Luz (Fragotero, 59), who settled for second, 2 1/2 lengths adrift.

Pecadora Joy (Fortify, 58.5) finished third after racing wide and below her best, while Ataka held fourth, another half-length back. One of the more fancied runners, Causeway Girl (Dabster, 59), failed to fire and trailed the field home. Final time was an excellent 1:22.68, following fractions of :24.69:47.78, and 1:10.41.

Trained by Carlos D. Etchechoury and presented by his son Juan ManuelOrpen Rimout, a homebred for Haras Firmamento, now boasts 4 wins from 10 starts and looks poised to make her presence felt soon in the mid-distance stakes division.
