SARATOGA SPRINGS, New York—Trainers Simon and Ed Crisford will look to secure a third Belmont Derby victory for the powerhouse Coolmore partnership this Saturday at Saratoga, saddling the highly regarded Title Role {Ire}(Too Darn Hot {GB}—[Dam], by [Broodmare Sire]) as one of the definitive choices in the prestigious $750,000 G1 Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes.

Carrying the iconic silks of Derrick Smith, Mrs. John Magnier, and Michael Tabor, the progressive colt hits the absolute peak of his form cycle on the heels of a landmark classic triumph in the G2 German 2,000 Guineas at Cologne. That European success heavily validated the immense potential he displayed during the Dubai winter season at Meydan, where he captured both the Jumeirah 2,000 Guineas Trial and the Jumeirah 2,000 Guineas (L). Notably, his only defeats of the current campaign came over a seven-furlong trip, a distance his connections firmly believe is sharper than his ideal parameters.

"We have always thought he was a very high-class horse. He progressed significantly during his time in Dubai and subsequently confirmed that talent by winning in excellent fashion in Germany. He is an exceptionally straightforward, well-balanced individual who handles turning tracks perfectly. We feel the nine-furlong distance will suit him beautifully, which is why we targeted the Belmont Derby directly," co-trainer Ed Crisford explained. Originally acquired for roughly $695,000 at the 2025 Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale, Title Role will be ridden by Hall of Fame jockey John Velazquez from post nine, looking to make full use of the colt's high tactical versatility.

Chief among his international rivals is Godolphin's Pacific Avenue {Ire} (Dubawi {Ire}), conditioned by Charlie Appleby. Having previously crossed paths with the choice in Dubai, the Godolphin colorbearer elevated his form dramatically upon returning to Europe, checking in a close third behind Gstaad in the G1 Irish 2,000 Guineas. While Appleby has amassed a remarkable 31 top-tier victories on North American soil, the Belmont Derby trophy has thus far eluded him, and he counts on his charge to maintain his upward trajectory.

The domestic defense will be spearheaded by the ultra-consistent West End Kid (Twirling Candy), who steps up off a commanding, track-and-trip score in the G3 Pennine Ridge Stakes right here at Saratoga, boosting his record to three victories from just four career outings. The local contingent features plenty of depth, including Blackmail (Not This Time), a close runner-up to West End Kid last time out; Bottas (Vekoma), who is expected to step forward with a recent tightener under his belt; G3 Transylvania Stakes hero Remember Mamba (Kitten's Joy); and Touch of Fire(Constitution), an authoritative winner of the Audubon Stakes (L). Completing the deep lineup are the promising grass debutant Tiernanogue (Quality Road); the Graham Motion-trained Turf Star (Caravaggio), representing a barn that has captured the last two renewals of this race; and Third Coast (Uncle Mo), an exciting winner of two of his three lifetime starts who enters off a victory in the Jersey Derby (L).

The Belmont Derby is carded as the ninth event on a spectacular afternoon of racing at the Spa. The blockbuster card also features the G1 Belmont Oaks, highlighting Argentine classic filly Carmensita; the G2 Suburban Stakes, where Maroñas' reigning 2025 champion 3-year-old Obstable (Uru) (Hofburg) makes his presence felt; and the G3 Sanford Stakes, anchoring one of the most important fixtures of the North American summer racing calendar.
