The 2025 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (G1) hero returned in top form and now sets his sights on even bigger targets

PARIS, France (Special to Turf Diario).- The return of great champions to racing’s grandest stage always creates a special atmosphere, and what unfolded Sunday at ParisLongchamp was no exception. Before more than 5,000 spectators awaiting the hero’s comeback, the Prix Ganay World Pool (G1) launched the European season for older horses at the highest level, providing the perfect setting for another display of extraordinary class.

All eyes were fixed on a single name: Daryz. The Francis-Henri Graffard trainee had not been seen since that unforgettable Oct. 5, when he etched his name into history by capturing the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (G1). Now, as a mature 4-year-old, the Aga Khan Studs star proved his brilliance remains fully intact, turning the first French Group 1 of the season into an exhibition of total superiority.

True to the style of elite horses, Mickael Barzalona kept him covered up and traveling comfortably through much of the journey. But once they straightened for home, the son of Sea The Stars ignited.

With a sharp and devastating turn of foot, Daryz dismissed his rivals with startling ease, pulling 3 1/2 lengths clear of Bright Picture (Intello), the Wertheimer & Frère representative who simply had no answer to the storm unleashed by the champion.

The victory marked a second top-level success for the grandson of Selkirk, who races in the same famed colors as established star Calandagan (Gleneagles).

But beyond the statistics, the triumph carried deep emotional significance: his next target will be the Prix Aga Khan IV (G1)—formerly the Prix d’Ispahan—renamed in honor of His Highness Aga Khan IV, who passed away in February 2025 after leaving an immeasurable legacy within the Thoroughbred industry.

With the authority of a horse capable of controlling the stage at will, Daryz confirmed himself as the leading force in European racing today. Under the guidance of Francis-Henri Graffard and in perfect sync with Mickael Barzalona, the colt carrying those historic green-and-red silks now heads toward a season that promises to be every bit as memorable as the last, keeping alive the flame of one of the most influential dynasties in world racing.
